There are just a pair of games on the ice Wednesday, Oct. 14, and my card of NHL picks has you covered for both bouts.

My NHL player props are headlined by Washington Capitals center Dylan Strome, as he’s set up for offensive success against the Montreal Canadiens tonight.

Prop pick #1: Dylan Strome 1+ assist

Novig probability: 44%

Washington Capitals center Dylan Strome is skating in an ideal offensive situation with Tom Wilson and Alex Tuch on his flanks at 5-on-5 and serving as a key distributor on the No. 1 power-play unit.

Strome has picked up an assist in four of six games for five total, and the Montreal Canadiens have allowed a healthy 3.67 goals per game.

This prop is in play up to 47%.

Prop pick #2: Lane Hutson 2+ shots on goal

Novig probability: 48%

Montreal No. 1 defenseman Lane Hutson has picked up 2+ shots in five consecutive games with 13 total on 28 attempts. He’s also posted an elite 62.2 Corsi For percentage with a 62.7% shot share at 5-on-5 during the run and jumps the boards with the No. 1 power-play unit.

This is also the second road game in as many nights for Washington following a 4-2 loss to the Hurricanes on Tuesday, and the Caps rank 22nd in CF% at 5-on-5 while allowing the sixth-most shots per game.

  • Matchup: Capitals vs. Canadiens
  • Time: 7:30 p.m. ET

Goal scorer pick: Nazem Kadri

Novig probability: 28%

Colorado Avalanche center Nazem Kadri has been incredibly dangerous without scoring, so I’d recommend this anytime goal scorer prop up to 29%.

He’s recorded a solid 1.85 expected goals and nine individual high-danger scoring chances, and Kadri continues to skate in a top-six role with looks on the No. 1 power-play unit.

Additionally, this home-and-home bout heads to Ball Arena, where I give the Avalanche a sizable early-season advantage playing at altitude.
