The Vancouver Canucks have allowed shots in bulk all season long. Playing on a loaded top line and dominant power play unit, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is in a prime position to capitalize.

My Oilers vs. Canucks predictions expect to see an active offensive performance from the veteran winger.

Let’s break down my NHL picks for Saturday, January 17.

Oilers vs Canucks prediction

Oilers vs Canucks best bet: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins Over 1.5 shots (-150 at Bet99)

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is more of a playmaker than a shooter, but he has still generated a healthy amount of shots when facing weaker defensive teams.

RNH has played 16 games this season against sides ranking in the Bottom-10 in shot suppression. He has averaged 4.1 attempts in those games while going Over the number in 13 of them.

That includes two meetings with the Vancouver Canucks, both of which Nugent-Hopkins registered multiple shots on target. He recorded eight attempts in aggregate.

His volume is even better on the road. He is averaging 2.6 shots on goal in away games against Bottom-10 shot suppression sides, clearing 1.5 shots in all eight.

It’s also worth noting his shot outputs have increased with Zach Hyman on his opposite wing. Nugent-Hopkins is attempting 3.9 shots per game with Hyman on his line compared to 3.3 without.

As a cherry on top, the pace should be conducive to plenty of shots. The Edmonton Oilers (4th) and Canucks (14th) both rank in the top half of the league in 5-on-5 pace over the past 10 games.

Oilers vs Canucks same-game parlay

Nugent-Hopkins Over 1.5 shots

Nugent Hopkins Over 0.5 assists

McDavid to score

Connor McDavid has gone nuclear with both RNH and Zach Hyman by his side. Isolating the 21 games with each winger attached to his hip, McDavid is averaging 0.9 goals, 2.2 points, and 5.0 shots on net per game. I have a hard time believing the Canucks, who rank 31st in goals against, will be able to slow him down.

Nugent-Hopkins is averaging 0.7 assists with McDavid and Hyman as linemates. He has also produced 11 helpers over his last 13 games against teams ranking Bottom-10 in shot suppression.
