Jets vs Sabres Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

The Winnipeg Jets still boast one of the best offenses in hockey entering Thursday's action, and Tony Sartori expects the West's top team to break out of their mini-slump against Buffalo.

The Winnipeg Jets are set to hit the road to take on the Buffalo Sabres at the KeyBank Center this evening, and the NHL odds have Winnipeg listed as the road favorite.

Although Winnipeg has only scored one goal in three of its past four games, my Jets vs. Sabres predictions believe that those woes will be remedied tonight.

Read on for my NHL picks for Thursday, December 5.

My Jets analysis

The Winnipeg Jets are more than capable of running up the score, currently ranking in the top four of the league in goals scored per game, power play percentage, and shooting percentage.

If anything, I believe the recent slide works in our favor this evening, presenting a buy-low opportunity against a defensively poor Buffalo Sabres team. This season, Buffalo sits in the bottom half of the league in goals allowed per game, shots on goal allowed per game, and xGA/60.

The Sabres also struggle to stay out of the box, holding a bottom-six mark in penalty minutes taken per game. As alluded to above, that issue could be disastrous against a Winnipeg team with the second-best power play in the NHL.

Meanwhile, Buffalo netminder Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen has struggled with the product in front of him. He’s allowed four or more goals in each of his past two starts, posting a 0-1-1 record over that stretch with a .857 SV% and 4.41 GAA.

Despite the recent dip in offensive production, Winnipeg is more than capable of breaking out in Buffalo tonight.

Jets vs Sabres Odds analysis

Winnipeg opened as a -137 favorite and I believe the market will inflate this line further, due to the fact that the Jets outrank the Sabres in expected goal differential per 60 minutes while also possessing the stronger goaltender.

The total opened at 5.5 with the juice toward the Over, and considering that this total will not drop down to five, the only direction it can trend is up.
