Ducks vs Avalanche Prediction, Picks & Same-Game Parlay for Tonight’s NHL Game

The Avalanche seem to dominate the Ducks no matter who's on the roster. For as good as Anaheim has played, Colorado is such a well-oiled machine, particularly at home, that another multi-goal victory is almost a given.

The second game of tonight's NHL doubleheader on TNT features the Colorado Avalanche hosting the Anaheim Ducks.

Five of Colorado’s past eight wins against Anaheim have come by at least a two-goal margin, and my Ducks vs. Avalanche predictions expect this trend to continue.

Ducks vs Avalanche prediction

Ducks vs Avalanche Best bet: Avalanche -1.5 (+100)

There’s no denying that the Anaheim Ducks have been playing excellent hockey this season. They currently sit atop the Pacific Division with an impressive 11-3-1 record and bring a seven-game winning streak into this matchup.

However, the Colorado Avalanche remain heavy favorites, and for good reason. Not only are the Avs the best team in hockey, but there’s also a significant gap between them and the rest of the field.

Colorado has lost just one game in regulation all season, an incredible feat built on two-way dominance. The Avalanche rank first in expected goals for per 60 minutes (xGF/60) and third in expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA/60).

They’re the only team in the league that ranks in the Top 3 in both key categories. Subsequently, Colorado sits first in expected goals percentage by nearly a five-point margin.

To put that difference into perspective, a five-point gap in expected goals percentage is roughly the same as the gap between second place and 20th place.

Ducks vs Avalanche same-game parlay

There may be no better candidate to score than Nathan MacKinnon, who leads the league in both goals and points.

There’s also a strong correlation with Valeri Nichushkin recording an assist, given that he skates alongside MacKinnon on the first power-play unit and has assisted on each of his past two goals.
