Canucks vs Kraken Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Vancouver Comes Out Flying

The Canucks may be stuck in a three-game slump, but a trip to Seattle presents an amazing get-right spot. Our NHL picks are expecting Vancouver to get out to a hot start and ride that momentum for the rest of the game.

The Vancouver Canucks are amidst a season-long three-game losing skid as the get set to take on the Seattle Kraken tonight. The Kraken — who will play their second game of a six-game homestand — are +105 home dogs vs. the best team in the West according to NHL odds.

Early bettors have been backing the favorites and the Under, which is tough to disagree with when looking at how absent the Seattle offense has been of late.

First-period betting might not be for everyone, but when you're as good in the first frame as Vancouver, it’s tough to ignore a prop that has lost just six times over the last 34 games.

Find out what I'm talking about in my free NHL picks for the Canucks vs. Kraken on Thursday, February 22.

Canucks vs Kraken predictions

The Vancouver Canucks are riding a season-long three-game losing streak following a tough 3-1 loss in Colorado on Tuesday, which was about as tough a schedule spot a team can get after playing in Minnesota the night before.

Despite the trio of losses, Vancouver is still 2-0-1 on the first-period moneyline in those defeats, which is nothing new to the best first-period team in hockey.

Vancouver has the most 1P goals in the league at 70 and the best goal differential at +27. Because of this output in the first 20 minutes, the top team in the West has gone an impressive 18-6-10 on the 1P ML since the beginning of November.

With a -120 price tag tonight vs. a Seattle Kraken side scoring just 2.20 goals per game since the beginning of the month, It's hard to envision many scenarios where Seattle finishes the first frame on top.

Rick Tocchet will have his team fired up early following the loss in Colorado that was on the heels of the 10-7 loss on Monday to Minnesota. Considering the lack of offensive production from Seattle of late, the chances of losing this bet (the push is in play) on the two-way market are low. Vancouver has been losing 1P moneylines at a 9% rate since November 1.

My best bet: Canucks first-period moneyline (-120 at SIA)

Canucks first period -0.5

Canucks moneyline

Kraken team total Under 2.5

The Canucks have lost three games in a row once this year and have yet to drop four straight. Seattle doesn't match up well here as Thatcher Demko can continue to stifle an offense that has scored three or more goals just twice over its last six games.

The Canucks have a 30% ROI in winning the first period over the last 83 games and if there was a spot where Tocchet could motivate his team early, it's tonight following the recent losing skid.

Canucks vs Kraken moneyline and Over/Under analysis

SIA opened the Canucks as -125 road favorites tonight in Seattle but by 2 p.m. ET, that line had moved to -135 while the total of 6.0 has seen a little Under money come in.

The Canucks still lead all of hockey with 80 points, but a three-game losing streak has put their point percentage behind the Bruins’. Vancouver had an awful schedule spot on Tuesday having to go to Colorado — the best home team in hockey — following their epic loss to Minnesota on Monday.

Although the club might not be putting up the numbers it did following Christmas, Vancouver can still snap its losing streak vs. Seattle. I don’t see the Kraken's offense putting much past Demko, who is pushing for a Vezina bid and is 9-3 SU over his last 12 starts with a very bankable 2.16 GAA and a .924 SV%. He is a big reason the Under is taking some money..

I’m chalking up the loss to Colorado as a bad schedule spot and tonight is a get-right game for the visitors who continue to take money. I’d buy the Canucks up to -130.
