Who would have thought the Carolina Panthers would be one of the best bets in the NFL and chasing down a playoff spot heading into Week 10?

Not me. And not oddsmakers, who set Carolina’s season win total at 6.5 Over/Under.

The Panthers are getting close to topping that total, bringing a 5-4 SU record and 6-3 ATS mark into a home date with the rival New Orleans Saints.

Bookies have Carolina in rare territory in Week 10, with the team set as a favorite of more than a field goal for just the fourth time since 2020.

Here are my early Saints vs. Panthers predictions and NFL picks for November 9, where I call for a Saints cover in an offensive slog.

Saints vs Panthers predictions

Here are our early thoughts on the spread and total for this week’s game. We will have a full game preview (with a best bet and SGP) later in the week.

Early Saints vs Panthers spread pick: New Orleans +4.5

-110 at FanDuel

The Carolina Panthers are coming off a shocking win at Green Bay, upsetting the Packers 16-13 as 13.5-point road underdogs.

Carolina’s defense checked the Cheeseheads to 1-for-5 day inside the red zone and scored two takeaways, while RB Rico Dowdle dominated the turf with 130 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

That outing sets up a notable letdown in Week 10, especially when looking at what the New Orleans Saints have done lately. New Orleans had as many first downs as it did points (10) in a one-sided loss at Los Angeles on Sunday, getting just over 16 minutes with the football.

Rookie quarterback Tyler Shough made his first official pro start on the road and gave New Orleans’ offense a little extra pop with his passing prowess. Slough gave NOLA an uptick in downfield looks, with an increase in air yards compared to benched QB Spencer Rattler.

Playing from behind, Slough and this Saints playbook had to pass, which made New Orleans very easy to game plan for. Given the shorter spread for this trip to Carolina, I expect more balance from NOLA and an improvement from this dreadful offense.

Early Saints vs Panthers total pick: Under 39.5

-110 at FanDuel

I don’t know if this total makes it to the key number of 41 points, but if it does, I’m betting the Under.

The Panthers offense didn’t do much beyond Dowdle’s big day. Bryce Young wasn’t 100% under center, throwing for only 102 yards on 11 of 20 passing (4.9 yards per attempt). New Orleans isn’t on the same level as the Packers’ stop unit, but is better than first glance.

The Saints’ stop unit has run into some very strong offensive opposition in recent weeks, facing the Rams, Bucs, Bears, and Patriots. Carolina doesn’t pose the same threats, and both of these NFC South offenses sit among the least explosive attacks in the NFL.

Saints vs Panthers odds
