Buffalo wins, but Detroit covers the 4.5-point spread in our 29–26 projection. Neither defense earned much benefit of the doubt in its opener: the Bills allowed 31 points to Houston, while the Lions needed overtime to beat New Orleans 31–30. Josh Allen gives Buffalo a way to keep drives alive when the first read isn’t there, but we like Detroit’s chances of answering enough scores to keep this within a field goal.
Over 53.5 is our total pick, with 55 points projected — the highest on our Week 2 slate. Detroit just allowed Tyler Shough to throw for 410 yards, and Buffalo produced 10 gains of more than 15 yards against Houston. That gives us reason to expect scoring opportunities on Thursday, even if neither offense matches its opening-week output. The projection clears this line by only 1.5 points, so this is a modest lean toward the Over.
Josh Allen is our anytime-touchdown pick at 49¢. He ran for two scores in Buffalo’s 36–31 win at Houston, a useful reminder that his legs remain a major part of this offense’s scoring threat. We like him to find the end zone again in a game that gives the Bills our highest projected team total of the week.
Detroit has to account for Allen as both a passer and a runner, and that second threat is why we’re backing him here. James Cook can finish drives, too, but Allen gives Buffalo another option when space gets tight near the goal line. We’re looking for Allen to score one himself; a touchdown pass doesn’t cash an anytime-touchdown pick.
Our NFL AI predictions use a custom statistical forecasting model built with GPT-6 Astra to project a final score for each matchup using team strength, offensive and defensive scheme matchups, injuries, home-field advantage, and the latest relevant information via real-time search.
Each score projection is locked before the final Kalshi market snapshot used for publication. Those projected scores are then compared with the representative spread and total to produce our ATS and Over/Under selections.
