The Atlanta Falcons are coming off a statement win over Buffalo on MNF, and they can stake a claim in the NFC title hunt when they visit the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football in Week 7.

However, my early Falcons vs. 49ers predictions and NFL picks break down why Atlanta could be bound for a letdown on October 19.

Falcons vs 49ers predictions

Here are our early thoughts on the spread and total for this week’s game. We will have a full game preview (with a best bet and SGP) later in the week.

Early SNF spread pick: 49ers -3 -110

-110 at FanDuel

In terms of value in the spread, I’d take the San Francisco 49ers laying a field goal.

We’ll see several injured offensive weapons return for the Niners this week, which will add an extra half point or more to his line. Quarterback Brock Purdy, WR Ricky Pearsall, and TE George Kittle could all be back in action for SNF.

While the Atlanta Falcons looked very strong on Monday, the team faces a short week and travels to the West Coast, setting up a potential stumble in Week 7. Atlanta has played just two road games so far this season, one of which ended in a 30-0 blowout loss at Carolina.

The Falcons were able to take advantage of an injury-plagued Bills squad on Monday, and they have been helped along by opponents missing major cogs in wins over Washington and Minnesota.

I’ll lean 49ers -3, getting ahead of positive updates for those offensive stars.

Early SNF total pick: Under 46.5 -110

-110 at FanDuel

Atlanta’s offense was humming on Monday night, anchoring that attack in the run game and taking advantage of a poor Buffalo run-stopping unit. The Niners have had mixed results versus the run and are now down LB Fred Warner.

The Falcons have leaned into that dominant ground game to chew up the clock and hog the football. They enter Week 7 as the top "time of possession" offense in the NFC, bolstering some very solid defensive metrics. Atlanta is a Top 10 team in EPA allowed and DVOA at FTN.

As for the 49ers' schemes, Kyle Shanahan’s use of pre-snap motion often goes deep into the play clock, and San Francisco runs a tempered pace with one of the lowest rates of no-huddle and tempo.

Getting Purdy back under center, along with Pearsall and Kittle, will be a shot in the arm for San Francisco. Running back Christian McCaffrey has shouldered the load the last few weeks, keeping the Niners among the more efficient offenses.

The Niners are sixth in average TOP, which could turn this contest into a methodical game of “keep away” and keep the total Under 46.5 points.
