This is a game only a bettor could love, and we're siding with the Browns to cover in what should be an ugly affair.

The New York Jets will look to build on their first win of the season and make it two in a row as they host the Cleveland Browns on Sunday afternoon.

Both teams may be among the NFL’s worst when it comes to producing offense, but given the extremely low total, I’ll be taking the Over in my early Browns vs. Jets predictions.

Let’s take a closer look at how bettors can approach this matchup early in the week in my free NFL picks for Sunday, November 9.

Browns vs Jets predictions

Here are our early thoughts on the spread and total for this week’s game. We will have a full game preview (with a best bet and SGP) later in the week.

Early Browns vs Jets spread pick: Browns +1.5

It’s hard to pick either of these teams to win in any given week, but someone will come out of Week 10 with a victory.

For the New York Jets, it would make two in a row following a wild 39-38 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals before their bye week.

New York is playing some of its best football of the year right now, at least in spurts: the defense showed up big two weeks in a row prior to the Cincinnati game — allowing just 13 points in each game — while Breece Hall exploded for two rushing touchdowns along with a TD pass in the win over the Bengals.

But while those performances may be encouraging, the Jets still haven’t put together a complete game all year, and the Cleveland Browns have looked better over the totality of the season.

The Browns handled another weak team — the Miami Dolphins — 31-6 in mid-October, and also eked out a win over the Green Bay Packers earlier this year.

The Jets haven’t shown me enough to make me think they’ve turned the corner just yet, and the Browns are capable of playing decent football, even if they don’t do so on a regular basis. I’ll take the Browns to end New York’s winning streak at one.

Early Browns vs Jets total pick: Over 36.5

-115 at FanDuel

The Browns have been in contention for having the worst offense in football this year. Their 263.5 yards per game rank dead last in the NFL; they haven’t performed well at either running or throwing the ball, and they’re putting up just 15.8 points per game. The Jets haven’t been much better, only averaging 21.0 ppg on the season.

Those are numbers that will naturally have bettors considering the Under, but there are limits to how low we can expect a score to go, and oddsmakers are testing that by setting the total at just 36.5 points this week.

To put that into context, Cleveland has surpassed that total in four of its last five games. New York has also done so in six of its eight games. Hell, in the last game the Jets played, both teams hit this total on their own.

While the offenses might be tepid on both sides, the defenses haven’t been outstanding either, and this total is too low to justify. I’m taking the Over.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
