It's a dandy kickoff to the start of the CFL season, as the Montreal Alouettes are in Hamilton to take on the Tiger-Cats.

These two were on this same field in the East Final in November, where Montreal walked it off with a winning kick to punch its ticket to the Grey Cup.

My Alouettes vs Tiger-Cats predictions and free CFL picks have revenge playing the greatest motivator here, as the home team exacts just a little of it from last year's heartbreak.

Alouettes vs Tiger-Cats prediction

My Alouettes vs Tiger-Cats pick: Tiger-Cats +2.0 (-110)

Bo Levi Mitchell led the CFL in passing yards and touchdowns, but the Hamilton Tiger-Cats season ended with a frustrating East Final performance after averaging 30.5 points in two regular-season wins over the Montreal Alouettes.

The difference entering Week 1 is an even deeper receiving group. Kenny Lawler remains the headliner, but Kurleigh Gittens Jr. and Keric Wheatfall give Hamilton more answers against a secondary it already attacked successfully last year.

On the other side, Davis Alexander is coming off a three-interception Grey Cup loss and missed valuable reps after a preseason knee issue.

I make Hamilton the better-prepared offense and would back the Tiger-Cats outright up to pick'em.

Alouettes vs Tiger-Cats same-game parlay (SGP)

Only the BC Lions scored more than Hamilton's 28.5 points per game on the year.

While Alexander missed both starts vs the Ti-Cats, their defense was intact and picked apart, with Hamilton averaging 361 yards of net offense in the two meetings.

Montreal's 24.9 points (7th) is misleading, since Alexander made only seven starts during the regular season. In those starts, he led the offense to an average of 34 points per game, and failed to crack the 30-point plateau just twice.

That adds up to some fireworks in Week 1.
