The Stanford Cardinal travel to Provo for a late kickoff against the BYU Cougars tonight.

Stanford stumbled out of the gate with a Week 0 loss to Hawaii, while BYU cruised past Portland State in Week 1.

My Stanford vs. BYU predictions expect the Under to come through. Check out my full college football picks for Saturday, September 6.

Kickoff is set for 10:15 p.m. ET from LaVell Edwards Stadium, with the game airing on ESPN.

Stanford vs BYU prediction

Stanford vs BYU best bet: Under 45.5 (-110)

There’s no other way to put it — the Stanford Cardinal offense was dreadful in the opener against Hawaii, mustering only 286 total yards on 3.9 yards per play.

Quarterback Ben Gulbranson completed 15 of his 30 attempts for 109 yards with an interception but no touchdowns. Per PFF, he was the lowest-graded starting quarterback this season with a 29.3 passing grade, three turnover-worthy passes, and zero big-time throws.

Expect the Cardinal to shell up, run the ball, and hope to gain some first downs and keep the clock moving. This attempt to shorten the game and protect their starting QB should lead to a low-scoring game as long as the defense holds up.

The BYU Cougars managed 69 points in the opener against Portland State, but keep in mind that came against a miserable FCS defense that surrendered 40.0 ppg a year ago. BYU’s defense was utterly dominant, allowing 51 total yards on 1.2 yards per play, which is arguably the biggest takeaway from the 69-0 cakewalk.

BYU should continue to improve defensively in Year 3 under respected coordinator Jay Hill, and the offense is unproven, led by true freshman pivot Bear Bachmeier.

Stanford vs BYU same-game parlay

It’s difficult to see Stanford contributing much in the scoring department, especially on the road at a raucous LaVell Edwards Stadium.

BYU won 11 games last season, highlighted by a blowout win (36-14) over Colorado in the Alamo Bowl. The big storyline this offseason was the turnover at the quarterback position, but the Cougars are still a dangerous program.

Stanford vs BYU 3-Leg SGP

  • BYU -20.5 (-110)
  • Under 45.5 (-110)
  • Under 23.5 — 1st Half (+104)

Our deep-ball SGP: Cougars pull away late

Stanford will attempt to muddy the game up and limit possessions, which could keep things tight and low-scoring to start.

BYU’s superior offense should pull away late, especially once star running back LJ Martin gets cooking.

Stanford vs BYU 5-Leg SGP

  • BYU -20.5 (-110)
  • Under 45.5 (-110)
  • Under 23.5 — 1st Half (+104)
  • BYU -4.5 — 3rd Quarter (-108)
  • BYU -4.5 — 4th Quarter (-108)

Stanford vs BYU game predictions

Stanford vs BYU moneyline prediction

BYU will win this game in front of its home crowd and move to 2-0 on the young season.

Stanford vs BYU spread prediction

BYU will also cover the spread as it is the superior squad on both sides of the ball, and Stanford’s anemic passing attack doesn’t inspire much confidence about a backdoor cover.

Stanford vs BYU Over/Under prediction

This game will stay Under the total as Stanford looks to drain the clock, limiting possessions and keeping the game low-scoring.

Stanford vs BYU odds

  • Spread: Stanford +18 (-110) | BYU -18 (-110)
  • Moneyline: Stanford +800 | BYU -1300
  • Over/Under: Over 47.5 (-110) | Under 47.5 (-110)
