The American Athletic Conference doesn’t boast the big-time talent as the Power 5 leagues in college football betting but seems to always have an upstart among the bunch. This year it could have two. Central Florida and Memphis top the AAC’s 2020 season win total odds with those programs projected to post double-digit victories.
Even with the COVID-19 outbreak putting the start of the college football schedule in danger, sportsbook operators like Caesars Entertainment are posting their betting odds for the upcoming season. Here’s how oddsmakers expect the AAC to go in 2020:
AAC College Football 2020 Season Win Totals Odds
Caesars projects the 11-team AAC to be a middling to below-par league, with only three teams’ win totals above eight. Central Florida leads the way, followed by Memphis and Cincinnati.
Highest Win Total: UCF Knights
Central Florida finished fourth in the AAC last year, with a 9-3 SU regular season mark (5-7 ATS), followed by a blowout win over Marshall in the Gasparilla Bowl. The Knights went on the board this year with a win total of 10.5 - a notch ahead of Memphis at 10. Quarterback Dillon Gabriel returns to lead a UCF offense that finished in the Top 10 in three categories: passing yards (320.0 ypg, eighth), total yards (536.6 ypg, fourth) and scoring (43.0, sixth).
Lowest Win Total: East Carolina Pirates
East Carolina finished on a 1-6 SU skid last year, en route to a 4-8 SU mark overall (6-6 ATS). But with several returning starters on both sides of the ball for the Pirates, including QB Holton Ahlers, perhaps the chance exists to better the opening win total of 3.5 (Under -135).
Team Of Note: Cincinnati Bearcats
Cincinnati’s win total opened at 8.5 (Over -165), following a 10-2 SU regular season (7-5 ATS), a loss at Memphis in the AAC title game and a blowout win over Boston College in the Birmingham Bowl. Perhaps the most important returnee for the Bearcats is coach Luke Fickell, who turned down Michigan State to remain at Cincinnati. Bill Bender of Sporting News wrote that Cincy could break out of the Group of 5 conferences to nab a New Year’s Six bowl bid.

How to bet season win totals
Season win totals are somewhat self explanatory: betting on how many wins a team will have that regular season.
Oddsmakers set a projected number of wins for each team - based on past success, returning personnel and strength of schedule - and offer Over/Under betting options, allowing you to wager on if a team will exceed that win total (Over) or fall short of it (Under). This total does not include postseason games, such as the conference championship or bowl games.
On top of the season win total itself, oddsmakers set an assigned cost to the Over and Under bets – also known as vig or juice – depending on the implied probability of the team winning more or less than that total.
For example, oddsmakers calculate TEAM A to win nine games this upcoming season but do feel like there’s a better chance of them winning 10 games rather than 8. Therefor, they set TEAM A with a win total of 9 but increase the vig on the OVER to -130 (bet $1.30 to win $1) and decrease the vig on the UNDER to +110 (win $1.10 for every $1 bet).
OVER 9 WINS (-130)
UNDER 9 WINS (+110)
Season win totals are considered futures betting odds and sportsbooks will take action on season win totals from the time they post the odds until the start of the season. Futures bets are then graded at the end of the season when all results are final.
