Oregon vs Purdue Prediction, Picks & Odds for Today's College Basketball Game

Purdue will outclass Oregon by playing suffocating defense and winning big. Expect strong showings from Braden Smith and CJ Cox in a low-scoring blowout.

The Oregon Ducks will seek to end an eight-game losing streak as they visit the Purdue Boilermakers this afternoon.

Both teams play a deliberate style of basketball, and those tendencies are pushing me toward the Under in my Oregon vs. Purdue predictions.

Read on to see all my thoughts and college basketball picks for this Big Ten matchup on Saturday, February 7.

Oregon vs Purdue prediction

Oregon vs Purdue best bet: Under 143.5 (-110)

The Oregon Ducks and Purdue Boilermakers have at least one thing in common: they both rank among the slower-paced teams in college basketball, limiting possessions and settling into their halfcourt offenses.

The Ducks rank 282nd in the nation in adjusted tempo, while the Boilermakers are 304th, per KenPom. Purdue is efficient, shooting 51.2% from the field, while holding opponents to just 69 points per game.

The Boilermakers should find plenty of defensive success against the Ducks, who are averaging only 72 PPG on the year, ranking 248th in the nation in scoring. That number looks even worse now that Oregon is into Big Ten play, where it has been held below 60 points in four of its last six games, and has only reached 70 points once in its previous seven.

The Purdue defense should suffocate the Ducks, and while the Boilermakers can score, they have only put up 80-plus points twice in their last six, a number that isn’t likely to improve in a slowly-played game.

Oregon vs Purdue same-game parlay

It’s never easy to combine the Under with a favorite giving a boatload of points, but this is one of the rare times where that’s the clear play, as Purdue should outclass the Ducks, who have lost eight straight and covered only once in those games.

I’ll also take Braden Smith to go Over 15.5 points, as he’s Purdue's most consistent scorer and has hit that total in six of his last eight.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
