Oregon State vs Oregon Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight's College Basketball Game

Someone will remain undefeated when Oregon State clashes with Oregon tonight. We're more focused on the Under, though, as these teams will play at a snail's pace while putting forth some solid defense.

It’s a rivalry renewed when the Oregon Ducks host the Oregon State Beavers tonight.

Both are undefeated and have had multiple close encounters. This was on display for the Beavers in their most recent outing against North Texas.

I break down a tightly-contested, low-scoring matchup in my Oregon vs. Oregon State predictions and college basketball picks for Monday, November 17.

Oregon State vs Oregon prediction

Oregon State vs Oregon best bet: Under 141.5 (-110)

The Oregon State Beavers' first three opponents have all played their fewest possessions of the season. These are the things that tend to happen when you play a team with the 316th “fastest” average possession length in college basketball. I think it will be a story in tonight’s game, and it’s a chief reason why I’m on the Under.

I project right around 67 possessions, with the possibility that it goes a bit lower. With that in mind, both teams will need to execute at an elite level in the halfcourt for this total to go Over. Neither team has really done much of that, which is why removing any priors on BarTorvik makes this total a staggering 128.

The Oregon Ducks have an effective field goal rate of 45%, ranking 291st nationally.

Sometimes, this can indicate a looming positive regression, especially when it’s just from beyond the arc. However, Oregon has shot poorly from almost every spot on the floor, and it hasn’t necessarily created oodles of open looks.

Oregon State has shot slightly better overall, but will face a much better defense. It’s also not a team with loads of individual talent or guys who can create their own shots. I’d happily play this down to around 139.

Oregon State vs Oregon same-game parlay

I’m splitting the difference here in some ways.

With such a slow pace and two poor offenses, this number is a touch too high for Oregon to cover. The Ducks have dominated this series, but Oregon State has covered in five straight head-to-head meetings. I think the story stays the same in this matchup. The Beavs have enough talent to hang, but not enough to win.
