After a day off for both teams, Clemson and Georgia will meet in the Charleston Classic Final on Sunday afternoon.

If what the teams have overcome to get here is any indication, this should be an entertaining affair. The Tigers came back from a 11-point second half deficit to beat West Virginia on Friday, while Georgia needed late-game heroics to beat Xavier.

I break down the matchup in my Clemson vs. Georgia predictions and college basketball picks for Sunday, November 23, telling you why Clemson is the better bet.

Clemson vs Georgia prediction

Clemson vs Georgia best bet: Clemson -2.5 (-110)

Almost nobody in college basketball has played faster this season than the Georgia Bulldogs

Georgia comes into this matchup with the 13th-fastest average tempo in the sport and the third-shortest average possession length. That’s what makes a matchup like this so interesting.

The Clemson Tigers have perennially been a pace-controlling team. Nothing has changed this season, and I expect that to be the difference in this matchup.

Georgia has yet to face a team this season that is going to make it execute consistently in the halfcourt. Clemson has played at a snail’s pace this season (even slower than usual), ranking 339th nationally in overall tempo.

More importantly, the Tigers are quite good at forcing other teams into that “in the mud” style of play in the process. Clemson’s average defensive possession length is one of the slowest in the country, with just one team nationally forcing opponents into longer possessions.

That is a key indication that your defense is strong, specifically at making your opponent work for scores.

With that in mind, the biggest factor in this game is how much Clemson can cut into Georgia’s transition scoring. The Dawgs come into this matchup getting transition scores at, quite literally, the highest frequency in the sport. What happens when they face a defense that is going to almost completely shut that off?

I think I know. I would play Clemson up to -4.

Clemson vs Georgia same-game parlay

In what figures to be an adjustment period for Georgia, I’m expecting a choppy game, especially early, so I took the first-half Under at 74.5.

Neither of the Power 5 games Clemson has played this season has seen a half exceed 70 points, and that holds more weight than usual given what I mentioned above.

Lastly, it makes sense to pair our best bet thought process with a fade of the Georgia player most reliant on transition scoring, which is Jeremiah Wilkerson.

Clemson vs Georgia 3-leg SGP

  • Clemson -2.5
  • Under 74.5 1H
  • Jeremiah Wilkerson Under 12.5 points

Our beyond the arc SGP: Problems for Porter

Because of how fast its games have been, there is a degree of uncertainty of “what’s real” with the defensive numbers that Georgia has put up this year. That said, the eye test matches up with their ability to slow down straight-line drives, so I’ll fade a player in Jestin Porter who's been heavily reliant on that exact thing this season.

He’s only eclipsed this number once this year.

I’ll finish up with the longshot parlay with Dillon Hunter to go Over 2.5 assists. The Bulldogs defensive setup points to vulnerability against strong cutting actions, and Hunter will likely be the primary initiator in those situations.

Clemson vs Georgia 5-leg SGP

  • Clemson -2.5
  • Under 74.5 1H
  • Jeremiah Wilkerson Under 12.5 points
  • Jestin Porter Under 11.5 points
  • Dillon Hunter Over 2.5 assists

Clemson vs Georgia odds

  • Spread: Clemson -2.5 | Georgia +2.5
  • Moneyline: Clemson -154 | Georgia +128
  • Over/Under: Over 156.5 | Under 156.5
