The Utah Jazz will look to win a third straight game and second in a row on the road as they visit the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Friday night.

Utah may be overmatched here, but the spread is too big to pass up, so I’m taking the visitors to cover in my Jazz vs. Knicks predictions.

Let’s break down tonight’s matchup in my free NBA picks for December 5.

Jazz vs Knicks prediction

Jazz vs Knicks best bet: Jazz +16 (-115)

After a terrible start to the season, the Utah Jazz seem to be rounding into some sort of form, having won three of their last four games. That includes at least one truly impressive performance, a 133-125 win against the Houston Rockets on Monday.

They’ll have to play just as well to be competitive against the New York Knicks. New York is 14-7 on the year, and has won five of its last six games.

The Knicks are third in the NBA in offensive efficiency (118.9 ppg), but play a slow-paced brand of basketball that has held opponents to just 113.0 ppg, a combination that’s tough to match.

But it’s also a style that doesn’t naturally lend itself to blowouts, especially if the opposition has at least some scoring punch. The Jazz fit that mold, scoring 118.6 ppg behind players like Laura Markkanen (28.1 ppg) and Keyonte George (23.1 ppg), with a deep bench of occasional contributors backing them up.

The Jazz aren’t playing any better defensively as of late, but have put up at least 123 points in their last three wins.

If the Jazz come close to that figure, it’s going to be difficult for the Knicks — who have scored more than 120 points in only one of their last six games — to cover this enormous spread. I’m taking the Jazz tonight.

Jazz vs Knicks same-game parlay

The Knicks have consistently played towards the Under as of late, hitting it in seven of their last nine games — a play style that will also help Utah keep this game relatively close.

However, I like Jazz star Lauri Markkanen (28.1 ppg) to hit his relatively low points total, as he’s gone over this total in three of his last four games.

Mikal Bridges’ output has been inconsistent this year, but he hit eight threes in a single game earlier this week, so the Over is a good bet for those looking to put together a longshot SGP tonight.

Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
