Two teams looking to break out of the middle of the Eastern Conference pack will face off tonight as the Atlanta Hawks host to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Philadelphia has been playing better, but will struggle without Tyrese Maxey in the lineup, which is why I’m taking Atlanta to cover in my 76ers vs. Hawks predictions and NBA picks below.

76ers vs Hawks prediction

76ers vs Hawks best bet: Hawks -5 (-105)

The Philadelphia 76ers have been happy to have Joel Embiid back in the lineup, given his health issues, as they’re a completely different team with the talented center on the court.

Unfortunately, while he’ll be in the lineup today against the Atlanta Hawks, they won’t have leading scorer Tyrese Maxey, who is averaging 31.5 ppg but will be out with again with an illness.

Maxey was critical in keeping Philly in its last game against Atlanta, scoring 44 in what would ultimately be an overtime loss. That extended a streak in which the Hawks have won six straight now against the 76ers, covering in five of those games.

The Hawks aren’t entirely healthy either, and Embiid could have a big game with center Kristaps Porzingis out of the lineup with his own illness. Still, I’ve seen enough out of Atlanta lately to give it the edge.

Jalen Johnson (23.2 ppg) has gone for a triple-double in each of his last three games, giving him five overall, and the Hawks have enough alternate options for scoring, including Nickeil Alexander-Walker (20.7 ppg) and Onyeka Okongwu (16.0 ppg).

Without Maxey, the Sixers don’t have the firepower to keep up with the Hawks, especially on their home court. I’m taking Atlanta to cover.

76ers vs Hawks same-game parlay

I’m not only taking the Hawks to cover tonight, but I’m also backing the Over, as these teams have hit the Over in eight of their last nine meetings, and there's an unusually low total with Maxey out. I’m also backing Jalen Johnson to keep building on his three-game streak of posting triple-doubles tonight.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
