Best bets card (updated Sunday)
- β Outright: William Byron (+900) — in good form, he can make amends for falling apart late in last year's Goodyear 400.
- β Outright: Bubba Wallace (+2500) — his hot start to 2026 continues to fly under the radar.
- β Top 5: Ty Gibbs (+425) — a winning ticket in three straight overall.
- β Top 5: John Hunter Nemechek (+1200) — a great price to find out if the 2025 Southern 500 was a fluke or not.
- β Matchup: Ty Gibbs (-120) over Brad Keselowski — Brad has run bad in 2026.
Who's hot? Who's not?

- π₯ Bubba Wallace — picked up his fourth Top 10 through five races.
- βοΈ Kyle Busch — has yet to hit the Top 10 in 2026.
- βοΈ Josh Berry — finished 26th or worse four straight times.
Track breakdown: What wins at Darlington Raceway?
- Darlington's asymmetrical turns present a challenge for teams trying to find the right balance for the cars.
- Darlington's highly abrasive surface rewards veterans who know how to manage tire wear.
Key stats & driver profiles to target
- Six different drivers have won the Goodyear 400 since 2020, at an average age of 37.7 years old.
- There are four active multi-race winners in the field.
Drivers to watch
- Denny Hamlin — the defending race winner and last Sunday's victor.
- Erik Jones — two of his three lifetime wins have come here, the last in 2022.
Odds movement & market notes
- Tyler Reddick (+650) and Chase Briscoe (+700) are much lower than usual, but this makes sense given their recent successes at Darlington.
- Bubba Wallace (+2500) has the third-best average starting position at Darlington since 2023. I anticipate his odds dropping post-qualifying.
- William Byron dropped from +900 to +800 since this column went live on Wednesday. Given that I'm backing him to win, I understand why he's taking action.
- Connor Zilisch also dropped from +6500 to +6000, but I wouldn't consider it "smart" money given how little success young drivers have on this tricky oval.
- Ty Gibbs took a drop from +3000 to +2500 from Thursday into Friday, which makes sense considering his sharp recent form.
- Chase Elliott (+1400) is always a popular pre-qualifying option, but given his average starting position of 20.2 here since February 2023, I'm anticipating his price being much higher on race day. He's been no better than eighth in five straight races at Darlington.
- Tyler Reddick (+350) is among those who moved sharply after qualifying. Other drivers taking major attention are Ty Gibbs (+2500 to +900), Brad Keselowski (+3000 to +900), and Bubba Wallace (+2500 to +900).
- Moving the wrong way after qualifying were Chase Briscoe (+700 to +1100), Christopher Bell (+2000 to +900), and Joey Logano (+1800 to +6000), among others.
Outright picks: Winners to bet
Pick 1: William Byron to win (+900)
Byron had the dominant car here in 2025, yet finished second.
- Track Fit: He won the 2023 Goodyear 400.
- Recent Form: Building momentum with a seventh and a third in successive weeks.
- Market Value: A fair price as the fifth choice.
Risk: Chevrolets have yet to win a Cup Series race in 2026.
A driver has swept the stages nine times at Darlington, the most at any track, but has only gone on to win twice:

Pick 2: Bubba Wallace to win (+2500)
Wallace can build on a brilliant start for Toyota.
- Track Fit: Five Top 10s in his last seven starts here.
- Recent Form: No worse than 11th in the first five races of 2026.
- Market Value: His trailing Logano, Chastain is insane when comparing statistics.
Risk: He's only ever won three races in the Cup Series.
Best Top 5 bets
Pick 1: Ty Gibbs to finish Top 5 (+425)
Gibbs' three-race Top 5 streak rolls on.
- Market Fit: We're getting juicier odds here than even his teammate Wallace (+320).
- Key Stat: Gibbs was second in this race in 2024, and ninth in 2025.
Risk: Every hot streak comes to an end eventually.
Pick 2: John Hunter Nemechek to finish Top 5 (+1200)
Nemechek ran an unexpectedly incredible race at Darlington last August.
- Market Fit: This is a huge price worth taking a flier on.
- Key Stat: Nemechek led 15 laps, finished fourth, and placed in both stages in last year's Southern 500.
Risk: He has only two Top 5s in his career (both in 2025), so tread lightly.
Best matchup & head-to-head bet
Pick 1: Ty Gibbs (-120) over Brad Keselowski
Veterans usually dominate at Darlington, but not in this case.
- Matchup Advantage: Keselowski has been no better than 14th in three straight races here.
- Key Stat: Keselowski's Top 5 at Daytona is the lone one for RFK Racing in 2026.
Risk: Can Gibbs keep his momentum going?
Best Top 10 parlay
This Top 10 parlay takes advantage of William Byron's solid form at this track, Bubba Wallace's overall consistency this year, and a massive price on John Hunter Nemechek to replicate what he did at Darlington last August.
I would play this all the way down to +2000.
