NASCAR eero 400 long-shot predictions
Sleeper pick to win: Ryan Blaney
+1567 at Kalshi
The NASCAR Cup Series last raced at Chicagoland in 2019 with a different iteration of car, so I'm not leaning too heavily on past results there. However, it's a nice little feather in Ryan Blaney's cap that he's managed an average finish of 9.8 there over four races.
Blaney has hit the Top 10 in six straight, which is remarkable considering he has about half of Ford's Top 10 finishes on road/street courses this season. He was ninth at San Diego and sixth at Sonoma.
Now the No. 12 gets back to a bread-and-butter intermediate oval, where's he's tied for fourth with three wins over his last 40 such races, and ranks third in laps led.
Sleeper pick to win: Erik Jones
+4900 at Kalshi
Erik Jones has been no worse than 13th in five straight races on intermediate circuits, including a second at Michigan on June 7. He was sixth at Pocono in his last such race, picking up stage points both times.
Jones was also Top 10 in each of his last two starts at Chicagoland Speedway.
I'm ignoring his recent nondescript road/street efforts, as he's never been a sharpie at tracks where right turns are involved, and taking the plunge at a generous price.
Sleeper pick to win: Zane Smith
+9900 at Kalshi
Zane Smith has never recorded a start at Chicagoland, but this play is more than just a shot in the dark at 99-1.
Smith ran Top 10 at similar tracks in Charlotte and Nashville, truly threatening for the win in the former, before mechanical issues took him out at both Michigan and Pocono. Though Smith struggled at Sonoma, he did record a rare road Top 5 for Ford at San Diego (fourth) on Father's Day.
You don't often get this kind of price on a driver that's led multiple laps in three of his last six starts (three out of four if you exclude Michigan and Pocono).
