Our MLB expert believes Parker Messick (2.95 xERA vs. the White Sox this season) will pick apart his opposition today as the Guardians (59%) take Game 1.

The Cleveland Guardians (59%) are favored to get the early jump on the Chicago White Sox in ALDS Game 1 today, and for good reason.

My White Sox vs. Guardians predictions believe Cleveland is both well-rested and has the pitching advantage with Parker Messick, who owns a 2.24 ERA over the last 15 starts, taking the mound.

Let's dive deeper into my MLB picks for Saturday, Oct. 3 ahead of the 1 p.m. ET first pitch (TBS) from Progressive Field.

 TOP PICK
White Sox vs Guardians prediction: Guardians moneyline

For help understanding probabilities, see our odds calculator.

I’m backing Parker Messick and the Cleveland Guardians up to 62%.

Messick has been almost untouchable for months, allowing two runs or fewer in 13 of his past 15 starts – and never more than three.

He’s suppressed runs at an elite level, and his ability to keep the ball in the park – especially at home, where he’s allowed only 0.58 HR/9 – sets him up for success against a Chicago White Sox team heavily reliant on the longball.

The Guardians finished the season in good form at the dish, ranking ninth in wOBA and OPS in September. I trust them to support Messick.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Messick has performed like a true ace this year, sitting in the 98th percentile in Pitching Run Value.

White Sox vs Guardians combo

I like the Guardians to take the series opener, and I’m expecting more offense than the market in the process.

On top of some of the strong metrics I’ve already highlighted, the Guardians also finished seventh in both BB/K and SLG over the final month of the season. They’ve done damage at the plate.

Chicago was able to plate multiple runs in three of four matchups with Messick this season. They are also a whopping 21-0 to the Over following an off day.

Chase DeLauter led the Guardians in hard hit rate last month, and is a threat against both lefties and righties.

White Sox vs Guardians home run prediction: Munetaka Murakami

Munetaka Murakami doesn’t hit for average but, against Messick, that’s probably not in the cards for anybody.

What’s important for today's home run props is the power, and Murakami has shown an unmatched level of pop vs. lefties the past couple of months.

Murakami has managed a .434 xwOBA and 23.4% barrel rate facing southpaws since August 1.

While Randal Grichuk owns similarly strong numbers, Messick has given up a lot more power to lefties than righties (.203 ISO vs. .125 ISO) over the last 10 starts.

White Sox vs Guardians player prop: Chase DeLauter Over 1.5 hits + runs + RBI

DeLauter posted an impressive .323 average against left-handed pitching during the regular season, and both at-bats against Hagen Smith resulted in hard hit balls. He’ll be a big challenge for Smith early in the ballgame.

He’s likely to see plenty of righties when Smith departs, and that’s just fine. DeLauter finished second on the Guardians in September with a strong .410 xwOBA against right-handed pitching. He also led the charge in hard hit rate.
