Starting pitchers

Casey Mize (3-3, 3.28 ERA): Mize will make his second start against the White Sox this season on Thursday, after going six innings against Chicago in late April. That start saw him get handed the loss, despite limiting Chicago to three runs and four hits in six innings, as White Sox ace Carlos Rodon countered with 12 strikeouts in six innings.

Lance Lynn (6-1, 1.37 ERA): The rain delay in Cleveland will only help one of the Majors' best starters this season. Lynn was set to pitch on three days rest but will get the benefit of an additional day off, as he looks to continue an excellent season that has seen him start 6-1 with a 1.37 ERA. It will be his first start against the Tigers this season.

Moneyline pick

The 23-32 Tigers certainly did not need an increased degree of difficulty in their series-opener against the White Sox but they're going to get it. After Chicago's finale in Cleveland was delayed on Wednesday, potential Cy Young candidate Lance Lynn had his start moved to the opener vs. the Tigers.

Lynn has been phenomenal in 2021, with an ERA of 1.37 and a WHIP of 0.93, while not allowing a run in five starts — including in his most recent outing. The righty should be able to further his fantastic numbers on the season in this one, as he'll be opposite an absolutely lifeless Tigers lineup.

Detroit ranks 27th in the league in runs per nine innings and batting average, 26th in on-base percentage and home runs, while striking out 10.59 times per game — the most in the Majors. For as poor as the Tigers' runs per nine innings mark is on the year, at 3.86, it's still nearly double their per game average through three games vs. the White Sox this season (2.0).

The Tigers may be feeling themselves at the moment, with four wins in their last five games — including a sweep against the Yankees — but they are running into a buzzsaw here and will come back to earth on the South side of Chicago this weekend.

PREDICTION: Chicago (-200)

Over/Under pick

As mentioned, Detroit's lineup has been among the least threatening in the Majors this season and as a result, the Tigers have been a solid Under bet at 21-31-3 O/U (with Overs aided by Detroit ranking in the Top-10 in runs allowed on the year). Even their recent good run, during which they swept New York and split a two-game set with the Brewers, the Tigers were just 1-4 O/U.

Despite currently ranking in the Top-5 in both team batting average and runs per nine innings, the White Sox are not far off Detroit's O/U mark, at 24-31. That's thanks in large part to a strong pitching staff and great fielding, the former of which they will certainly get on Thursday with Lynn on the mound.

Lynn has pitched in three Overs this year but all three were almost entirely due to Chicago's lineup, with the White Sox crossing 20 runs in those games compared to five earned runs off of Lynn.

The two Unders in the Tigers and White Sox's season series have come on totals of six and eight, and with a total of eight on the board for this one, we'll gladly take the Under.

PREDICTION: Under 8 (-120)
