The Detroit Tigers got out to an early lead on Friday night, but couldn’t close it out against the Philadelphia Phillies, who came back with three runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth for a 5-4 win.
Jack Flaherty was cruising through six innings before turning it over to the bullpen, which is when things went south. The Tigers won’t let that happen again on Saturday afternoon, and we’re also getting a generous price on Tarik Skubal to pitch into the seventh inning.
Skubal has recorded 19+ outs in 10 of 21 starts this season, including three of his last five and seven of his last 11 outings. He's been great at pitching deep into games on the road recently as well, recording 20, 21, and 21 outs in his last three road starts.
Finally, the lefty allowed three hits in seven shutout innings against the Phillies last season.
