Today, my MLB picks are big on offense, fading pitchers in unfavorable matchups, eyeing Sutter Health Park in Sacramento, where Nick Kurtz, Tyler Soderstrom, and the A's can give Pittsburgh Pirates hurler Braxton Ashcraft a headache.

Pirates vs A's SGP: For your (Sutter) Health
Sutter Health Park continues to be a hitter's haven, and I'll take one of baseball's hottest sluggers in Nick Kurtz to pick up 2+ total bases and teammate Tyler Soderstrom to get one hit, whether against Pittsburgh Pirates hurler Braxton Ashcraft or the bullpen.
Kurtz has the day's best matchup, per Batters-Box, and features 72.3% arsenal coverage against Ashcraft. The right-hander has been very good this year, but he's also surrendered his fair share of base hits of late, giving up five or more in eight of his last 11 starts.
Soderstrom seems to have gotten over the hump of his slow start. On May 19, he was hitting .188. Since then, over his last 105 plate appearances, he's batting .349 with a sub-15% strikeout rate.
We'll wrap with Brandon Lowe 2+ total bases in a favorable matchup against A's starter Aaron Civale to bump us up to +345. Lowe has the best matchup on the Pirates here, and Civale is an increasingly pitch-to-contact starter who has been especially homer-prone (12 long balls surrendered in just under 56 innings).

Angels vs Diamondbacks SGP: Peripheral visions
I'm fading the pitching matchup between Sam Aldegheri and Eduardo Rodriguez despite their respectable surface-level stats. Both starters boast sub-3.00 ERAs, but things look a bit spottier under the hood.
Aldegheri has only thrown 17 innings in 2026, so the sample is small, but the Los Angeles Angels lefty averages 92.2 mph on his fastball and doesn't miss many bats because of it. Even if Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Ketel Marte hasn't been his best self for the season, he makes a lot of contact and is running one of the best strikeout rates of his career at 14.8%.
E-Rod is playing with fire. His 2.55 ERA is a total mirage, as his expected ERA sits more than TWO FULL RUNS HIGHER at 4.82. This can be explained away by any number of metrics, from an eighth-percentile whiff rate to a 21st-percentile strikeout rate or a 15th-percentile fastball velocity.
The play today is to target a right-handed bat, and the Angels have a few. I'm going with Jo Adell, who owns a 98th-percentile bat speed that will play well against E-Rod's pedestrian heater.
If you're feeling adventurous, I also like the Over 1.5 total bases props for Corbin Carroll and Zach Neto, which would push this SGP to +1500 if you added both.

Blue Jays vs Red Sox SGP: Boston Strong
Max Scherzer might be cooked.
The veteran Toronto Blue Jays right-hander doesn't miss bats anymore, and he's getting smashed when opponents put the bat on the ball. His 13.2% barrel rate ranks in the fourth percentile among MLB pitchers.
He's also given up nine home runs in 22 innings, with lefties, in particular, doing a ton of damage, slashing .322/.406/.661 with six home runs.
Enter: Wilyer Abreu and Jarren Duran.
Abreu has cooled since his monster start, but he still has excellent power and measures up very well against Scherzer. Duran's results have been worse, but he still has an elite bat speed in the 88th percentile and a rock-solid 11.6% barrel rate.
Considering Scherzer's struggles, the Boston Red Sox can do enough damage early to clear their team total, with Abreu and Duran likely responsible.
I'm also sprinkling a bit on both hitters to go yard with Abreu at +339 and Duran at +450.
