It’s a National League West showdown at Dodger Stadium tonight between the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday, June 16, with all eyes on Shohei Ohtani props as he makes his return to the mound.

However, my eyes are on Shohei's teammate Freddie Freeman, who takes the center stage in my Padres vs. Dodgers predictions.

My Padres vs Dodgers best bet: Freddie Freeman Over 1.5 hits+runs+RBI (-120 at Caesars)

Padres vs Dodgers best bet analysis

Freddie Freeman has posted elite numbers against right-handed pitchers to the tune of a .403 wOBA, .217 ISO, and .953 OPS over the past three years. He’s also picked up 76 hits, 37 runs, and 41 RBI for this season while exclusively batting third in the L.A. lineup.

Freeman has also been even better at Dodger Stadium to start 2025 with a monster .432, .218, and 1.005 line through 34 games, and his counting stats jump off the page. The eight-time All-Star has 42 hits, 21 runs, and 17 RBI at home.

The reason we’re landing a fair price on this prop is because the San Diego Padres have righty Cease on the bump. Still, Cease just faced the Dodgers on June 10, and Freeman is 4-for-11 against the hurler with two RBI and a solid .871 OPS.

Padres vs Dodgers same-game parlay analysis

The San Diego Padres topped the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-1 with Dylan Cease on the hill last week. The Friars righty has been sneaky good with a 3.39 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 3.16 xFIP while racking up an impressive 11.51 K/9 and a 30.6 K rate across his past 11 starts.

Additionally, San Diego is rolling along a respectable 11-9 active stretch despite sporting the sixth-lowest BABIP in baseball. Hitter-friendly Dodger Stadium and the Los Angeles bullpen following Shohei Ohtani in an opener role could be just what the Friar bats need to kick the poor plate luck.

The final leg of this same-game parlay turns to San Diego star Fernando Tatis Jr., and he continues to pad the box score with 73 hits, 52 runs, and 31 RBI while sporting a rock-solid .361 wOBA and .197 ISO.

Tatis also leads off for the Padres, which ensures he’ll have as many opportunities as anyone to hit this Over.

How will Ohtani do in his return to the mound?

My Shohei Ohtani best bet: Over 1.5 strikeouts (+125 at Caesars)

Despite Ohtani throwing 44 pitches across three frames in a simulated game Monday, June 9, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts is going to deploy the Japanese star in a traditional opener role against the Padres on Monday night.

As a result, Ohtani is likely set to pitch two innings or even a single frame. The only available betting market at Caesars for Ohtani is his strikeout props, with his total set at 1.5 and a ladder option:

  • 1+ strikeout (-625)
  • 2+ strikeouts (+105)
  • 3+ strikeouts (+280)
  • 4+ strikeouts (+700)

A short leash is keeping me at Over 1.5, but Ohtani's been changing the game for years now. Him striking out the side in his return to the mound would be just another item on the long list of his "Of course he did" moments.

Check out our Shohei Ohtani predictions for more picks ahead of tonight's game.
