We get a preview of what could be the National League Championship Series when the Los Angeles Dodgers host the New York Mets.

The Dodgers are doing a New York back-to-back after taking on the Yankees in the Bronx over the weekend, but now Dustin May will be tasked with cooling off a Mets team that has won eight of its last 10 games.

My Mets vs. Dodgers predictions break down why it could be a long, but technically short night for May.

That and more MLB picks for this NL showdown with first pitch scheduled to be thrown in Chavez Ravine at 10:10 pm ET on Monday, June 2.

Mets vs Dodgers prediction

My Mets vs Dodgers best bet: Dustin May Under 17.5 outs (-129 at Caesars)

The New York Mets are feeling good heading into this matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers, having won eight of their last 10 games, which included taking two of two-of-three from this same Dodgers team at Citi Field a few weeks ago.

And I like their chances to get off to a good start on Monday night.

Obviously, the Dodgers have arguably the most dangerous lineup in baseball, but Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto, and Pete Alonso have been leading a Mets offense that has been humming right along as well. New York ranks fifth in OPS and sixth in wRC+ heading into this series.

I’m betting the Mets will make it a short night for Dodgers starter Dustin May. At least compared to his outs recorded prop. Which is sitting at what looks to be a lofty 17.5.

Now, if the Dodgers want to defend their World Series title, they’re going to need some more effective arms in that rotation. They were hoping May would be up to the task this season, but so far that hasn’t been the case.

The 27-year-old right-hander relies a lot on a hard sinker that usually has great movement. Unfortunately, for May, it’s lost some of its pop this season and as a result, he enters this start he ranks in the 30th percentile in expected ERA and the 29th percentile in opponent expected batting average.

Against the sinker specifically, batters have a .330 xBA and a .573 xSLG. That’s not great facing a lineup that has given him problems in the past. Current Mets hitters have a .253 xBA vs. the Dodgers starter.

Additionally, May doesn’t have the longest leash, averaging 87.9 pitches per start, hitting the 90-pitch plateau just four times in 10 starts. The Mets are also patient at the plate and are tied for the fourth-best strikeout-to-walk ratio in the big leagues.

That has me thinking it’s unlikely that May gets through six innings on Monday night. Something he has done just twice in his last seven starts. Give me the Under 17.5 outs for May.

Caesars QuickPick: Our Mets vs Dodgers same-game parlay (SGP)

Dustin May Under 5.5 Strikeouts

Juan Soto Over 0.5 RBIs

Teoscar Hernandez Over 0.5 RBIs

Dustin May has been racking up the strikeouts lately, but a shorter outing on Monday night also means we could see a dip in that number in this matchup.

The Mets are also a tough lineup to strike out with the seventh-lowest K-rate in baseball this season. So, let’s start this same-game parlay off with May to go Under 5.5 strikeouts.

One of the hardest guys to strike out, not only on the Mets, but all of baseball, is, of course, Juan Soto. The Mets' star slugger was in a bit of a slump, but nothing a matchup with the Colorado Rockies can’t cure.

Soto collected five hits, including two home runs and three RBIs, over three games this weekend.  And since being move to the No. 3 spot in the lineup 10 games ago, Soto has eight RBIs. I like him to get another one tonight.

But he’s not the only one I like to drive in a run. Give me Teoscar Hernandez to quietly keep doing his thing.

Hernandez is probably the most unheralded guy in this stacked Dodgers lineup but he gets the job done. He already has 42 RBIs this season while hitting .219 with a .860 OPS. He also gets an interesting matchup vs. Mets start Paul Blackburn.

Blackburn is making his first MLB start since August 2024 thanks to a back injury. While all is good on that front, returning against this Dodgers lineup is less than ideal. Give me Teo to get another RBI tonight.
