HR picks for August 1

Nick Castellanos (+450 at DraftKings)

The Detroit Tigers will send Jack Flaherty to the hill at Citizens Bank Park, and Nick Castellanos has enjoyed himself against the righty in the past. He’s 5-for-13 lifetime with a double and a home run in this head-to-head.

The veteran has 14 long balls overall on the year and has gone deep twice in his last six contests. He's done the majority of his power damage against right-handers with 11 round-trippers. Flaherty does struggle with the long ball at times, allowing 19 of them in just 21 starts.

Castellanos also swings it better at home, with nine home runs compared to only five on the road. He’s worth a look this evening to go deep for the 15th time.

Bo Bichette (+450 at DraftKings)

The Toronto Blue Jays have cooled down a bit in recent days, but they’re still sitting at the top of the AL East. Bo Bichette has certainly done his part, hitting .291 with 13 home runs and 67 RBI.

We’ve seen more power output from Bichette in the past, but he’s still a threat to leave the yard at any given moment.

Bichette will face Michael Wacha of the Kansas City Royals tonight, a pitcher he’s had success against. He’s 5-for-13 lifetime with a long ball versus Wacha, who has surrendered 11 home runs this season in 21 outings.

Seven of those homers have come on the road, and eight of the four-baggers have been off the bat of right-handed hitters.

Bichette’s power has mostly shown up at home. He’s gone deep 11 times at the Rogers Centre, and 10 times off right-handed hurlers. It wouldn’t surprise me if he kept that success up tonight in the series opener.

Andrew McCutchen (+300 at DraftKings)

Andrew McCutchen may not be slugging 25+ bombs in a single season anymore, but he’s still capable of putting one out.

The 38-year-old has 10 home runs this year for the Bucs, going deep twice in his previous six appearances. Pittsburgh begins a series with the Colorado Rockies tonight, and the home team hands Antonio Senzatela the baseball. He’s having a nightmare campaign with a 6.68 ERA.

As you can imagine, Senzatela is having trouble with the home run. He’s given up 18 in 21 starts, and four across his last three outings alone. McCutchen is 4-for-15 lifetime against the right-hander with a pair of round-trippers.

Nine of Cutch’s 10 taters are versus righties, and the majority of his long balls have happened on the road, slugging eight. The Pirates are in Denver for this series, where the ball flies due to high elevation. This one is worth a serious look.
