Dodgers vs Blue Jays player prop picks
Prop #1: Yoshinobu Yamamoto Over 5.5 strikeouts
Right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto takes the mound for the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 2. Building on a successful debut season in 2024, Yamamoto took another step forward this year.
Through 30 starts, he posted a 2.49 ERA and 0.99 WHIP. His underlying metrics were equally dominant, ranking in the 87th percentile or higher in expected ERA (xERA), expected batting average (xBA), and barrel rate.
One of Yamamoto’s greatest strengths is his ability to rack up strikeouts. He finished in the 67th percentile in chase rate, 76th in whiff rate, and 89th in strikeout rate.
As a result, Yamamoto has recorded six or more strikeouts in 14 of his past 15 starts.
Prop #2: Kevin Gausman Over 5.5 strikeouts
On the other side, the Toronto Blue Jays give the ball to right-hander Kevin Gausman, who has also been excellent this season.
Through 32 starts, Gausman logged a 3.59 ERA and 1.06 WHIP. Like Yamamoto, much of his success stems from his strikeout ability.
Relying heavily on his fastball, Gausman ranked in the 85th percentile in chase rate, 59th in whiff rate, and 63rd in strikeout rate.
Additionally, the current Dodgers roster has a 25.6% strikeout rate and 26.4% whiff rate through 176 combined plate appearances against him.
Prop #3: Teoscar Hernandez Under 0.5 hits
One Los Angeles hitter who has struggled against Gausman is Teoscar Hernandez. Through 17 plate appearances, Hernandez has managed just a .188 batting average and .215 xBA while striking out five times.
While Hernandez generates power when he makes contact, his aggressive swing often leads to frequent swings and misses, resulting in more hitless games.
He failed to record a hit in Game 1, and that trend could continue in Game 2.
