The St. Louis Cardinals are in Southern California this afternoon to face Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.
My Cardinals vs. Dodgers predictions are eyeing the two-way superstar to bring his swing-and-miss stuff today. Read more in my MLB picks for Wednesday, August 6.
Cardinals vs Dodgers prediction
My Cardinals vs Dodgers best bet: Shohei Ohtani Over 4.5 strikeouts (+105 at Caesars)
As we all know, Shohei Ohtani has electric stuff on the hill. He only made his pitching debut for the Los Angeles Dodgers in June after a full year of recovery from Tommy John surgery, and Dave Roberts has made sure to ease Ohtani back into action.
In fact, in June, Ohtani didn’t pitch more than two innings in a single outing. In July, Los Angeles ramped that up to three innings each start.
Now that August has rolled around, the ball club is likely going to increase his workload a bit before the playoffs, which is why I’m liking the Over in Ks here.
Although Ohtani hasn’t struck out more than four hitters in a single outing this season, he does have eight punchouts in seven innings at home so far in 2025.
The St. Louis Cardinals do not strike out a ton, but the right-hander has eight strikeouts in just 12 at-bats against this lineup.
Ohtani is starting to find his form on the bump, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he hit five Ks, at the very least, today.
Cardinals vs Dodgers same-game parlay (SGP)
Freddie Freeman may not be putting up the usual power numbers we’re accustomed to seeing, but he’s still producing offensively.
The slugger is hitting .303 this season and has been red-hot to begin August. He’s 8-for-20 this month (.400).
Freeman has collected Over 1.5 hits in three of his last five contests, finishing with at least two hits in every game over the weekend against the Tampa Bay Rays. He’s also 2-for-3 lifetime against St. Louis starter Matthew Liberatore.
Los Angeles has won two of their last three matchups with the Cardinals and absolutely dominated them on Tuesday evening, running out with a 12-6 victory behind two homers apiece from Max Muncy and Teoscar Hernandez.
Ohtani always gives them a chance to win, and the Dodgers are 36-22 at home. They’ve also won three of their last five games.
Liberatore has a respectable 3.96 ERA but owns a 6-9 record, rarely getting run support from his offense.
