Shohei Ohtani has homered 38 times on the season, good for fourth in the majors, but has not hit a longball since July 26 in Boston.

My Cardinals vs. Dodgers predictions expect the international superstar to get back to mashing baseballs at home Tuesday night. Let’s break down why with my August 5 MLB picks.

Cardinals vs Dodgers prediction

My Cardinals vs Dodgers best bet: Shohei Ohtani to hit a home run (+150 at bet365)

Shohei Ohtani has not homered in eight consecutive games, which is abnormal for him. There’s plenty of reason to believe his power could return Tuesday night against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Ohtani draws an advantageous matchup against Miles Mikolas, whom he's feasted against in prior meetings. Ohtani is 4-8 against Mikolas with a .625 SLG%.

Mikolas owns a 43% hard hit rate and a 35.5% flyball rate against lefties. Those outputs are much higher than against right-handed bats. Unsurprisingly, that's translated to more homers. Mikolas has allowed 1.67 homers per nine innings against left-handed bats compared to 1.31 per nine vs. righties.

Mikolas likes to mix it up, throwing four different pitches at least 17% of the time against lefties. Ohtani excels against each pitch. He’s hit at least four homers against all four, with his lowest ISO of the bunch coming in at .256.

Ohtani has owned Mikolas in prior meetings but has yet to take him yard. Don’t be surprised if that changes tonight.

Cardinals vs Dodgers same-game parlay (SGP)

Shohei Ohtani to hit a home run

Brendan Donovan Over 0.5 hits

Dodgers moneyline

Brendan Donovan is a hit machine. He’s hit safely in 68% of his appearances this season and owns an impressive .305 batting average against right-handed pitchers. Dodgers starter Emmet Sheehan predominantly throws the fastball and changeup against lefties, playing into the hands of Donovan. He owns a .359 average vs. fastballs and a .378 average vs. the change.

Lastly, I like the Dodgers to get back in the win column. They have four different batters who own wOBAs of .395 or higher against righties and — headlined by Ohtani and Freddie Freeman — roster some bats who’ve teed off on Mikolas in the past. Their offense should power them to victory.
