Christian Yelich has been an RBI machine all year long for the league-leading Milwaukee Brewers.

My Brewers vs. Pirates predictions see that trend continuing in what should be a winning effort Friday night.

Let’s take a closer look at my MLB picks for Friday, September 5.

Brewers vs Pirates prediction

Brewers vs Pirates best bet: Christian Yelich Over 0.5 RBIs (+180)

Christian Yelich is having a fantastic bounce-back campaign as a driving force for one of the league’s elite teams.

He leads the Milwaukee Brewers in total bases and home runs, which has naturally led to a ton of RBIs. He has piled up 92 thus far, putting him 22 clear of the closest teammate.

I like his chances of cashing in at least one runner against Johan Oviedo and the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night.

Oviedo has performed fairly well since joining the Pirates' rotation, but there appears to be some smoke and mirrors. His ERA is 1.30 lower than his FIP over the past month, indicating he has benefited from some luck and not been as good as it appears on the surface.

Oviedo also didn’t pitch in the majors a season ago and posted a 4.31 ERA the season prior. The Brewers’ offense – which is tied for 2nd in runs per game – is more than capable of getting to him.

It’s also worth noting that, despite the Pirates coming off a sweep of the Dodgers, the Brewers are clear favorites in this game, as they should be.

Yelich has 12 RBIs over the Brewers' last 10 wins, and his clear rate of a 0.5 line is 29% – yes, 29% – higher in wins than losses. If the Brewers take care of business as expected, Yelich is likely to play a part.

Brewers vs Pirates same-game parlay (SGP)

William Contreras has 14 hits over his last 10 games and has reached base safely in nine of them. His average is noticeably higher against right-handed pitchers; Oviedo has allowed a much higher average against right-handed batters, and Contreras has two hits in three at-bats against him.

For the Pirates, Andrew McCutchen stands out as someone who can make a little noise at the dish. He has at least one hit in 63% of his games this season and has a solid .265 average against Quinn Priester’s most used pitch, the sinker.

Brewers vs Pirates 3-Leg SGP

  • Christian Yelich Over 0.5 RBIs
  • William Contreras Over 0.5 hits
  • Andrew McCutchen Over 0.5 hits
