Braves vs Cubs Prediction, Picks & Odds — Monday, September 1

Spencer Strider may eventually regain his ace form, but it doesn't look like it'll happen in 2025. We're fading the Braves right-hander and Cubs SP Colin Rea today, with plenty of runs in the forecast.

The Chicago Cubs host the Atlanta Braves in the opening matchup of this three-game series at Wrigley Field.

My Braves vs. Cubs predictions expect both offenses to be on point this afternoon.

Read on for my MLB picks for Monday, September 1.

Braves vs Cubs prediction

Braves vs Cubs best bet: Over 8 (-105)

There could be plenty of fireworks on Labor Day at Wrigley Field, given that both offenses rank in the top half of the league in runs scored per game, on-base percentage, OPS, and home runs. Factor in the pitching matchup, and there is little reason to believe this game won’t see at least eight total runs scored.

The Atlanta Braves hand the ball to right-hander Spencer Strider, who has yet to return to his 2023 form. Through 18 appearances this season, Strider is 5-12 with a 4.95 ERA and 1.38 WHIP.

His underlying metrics are equally poor. Entering this matchup, Strider ranks in the 21st percentile in expected ERA (xERA), 37th in expected batting average (xBA), fourth in average exit velocity, and 14th in barrel rate.

The good news for Strider is that he should receive plenty of run support against Chicago Cubs SP Colin Rea, who has a 4.23 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in 2025.

Like Strider, Rea’s analytics suggest further trouble down the stretch as he ranks in the bottom quarter of the league in xERA, xBA, strikeout rate, and barrel rate.

Braves vs Cubs same-game parlay (SGP)

Sticking with the theme of fading both starters, Rea and Strider have struggled to generate strikeouts. Rea ranks in the bottom third of the league in chase, whiff, and strikeout rates.

Meanwhile, Strider has recorded three or fewer strikeouts in each of his past three starts.
