We’ve got a busy betting slate around Major League Baseball tonight, including the series opener between the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees.

These games have been high scoring affairs this season and I expect tonight’s game to feature a lot of runs once again with these high-powered offenses on the attack.

Find out why with my free Toronto Blue Jays predictions for this September 5 matchup.

Blue Jays predictions for September 5

Today’s Blue Jays best bet: Bullpens Open the Floodgates

Pick (-133 at BetVictor)

This will be the 11th meeting of the season between these two AL East rivals.

The Toronto Blue Jays have controlled the season series going 7-3, winning six of the last seven contests. The Over is 5-1-1 in those meetings.

Both the Jays and the New York Yankees have a high-powered offense with the ability to put up crooked numbers on the scoreboard.

Toronto scored 29 runs in their three-game series against the Reds earlier this week, and went Over the total in nine of their last 10 games. Meanwhile, the Yankees averaged 7.33 runs per game in their series win over the Astros, going 7-3 to Over in their last 10 outings.

I’m expecting fireworks again in tonight’s tilt with Kevin Gausman on the mound against rookie Cam Schlittler

Gausman is 2-1 against the Yankees this year with his only loss coming in the one game where he pitched at Yankee Stadium. He lasted just 2.2-innings that night, surrendering five walks while allowing six runs.

As for Cam Schlittler, he’s been terrific lately, going at least six-innings deep in three straight outings, surrendering just one run combined over that stretch.

However, he did struggle a bit in his one and only outing against Toronto, giving up seven hits, three walks, and two runs back in July.

Moreover, both starters could give up some runs tonight, and then all hell could break loose once the relievers enter the chat.

Since the All-Star break, Toronto's bullpen has registered a 5.60 ERA, ranking 29th in baseball, to go along with a .262 opponent batting average, which ranks 28th.

New York's pen hasn’t been much better with a 4.81 ERA, ranking 25th in that span.

So if the starters get knocked around and get out of the game early, it could get ugly down in New York once the bullpens factor in.

Today’s Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)

Over 8.5 total runs

George Springer Over 0.5 runs

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 0.5 Home Runs

With anticipating the over, let’s continue putting together an offensive driven parlay.

For the second leg of the SGP, I’ll take George Springer to go Over 0.5 runs scored. Springer has a .496 OBP since the All-Star break, and has scored at least one run in 22 of his 28 appearances over that stretch, averaging 1.32 runs per game.

For the final leg, let’s go with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to go yard. He’s heating up after a tough stretch upon returning from his injury, now hitting in four straight, including a towering home run in his last outing. He’s 2-for-3 vs. Schlittler in his career. I can sense a big Vladdy moment coming tonight.
