NRFI/YRFI bets for June 3

Astros vs Pirates: NRFI (Play at ProphetX)

The Houston Astros are tied for the current longest streak in the bigs with first inning runs in the last four games. Their opponent Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Pirates, have a mini two-game streak going.

So why are we leaning on the NRFI?

Pittsburgh is trotting out stud Paul Skenes, and the guy hasn’t given up a first inning run in any start this season, though his team has spotted him a run in the opening inning three times. But the last time he got that support was six starts ago.

Can Astros starter Lance McCullers screw this bet up for you? For sure, but save for a brutal start against the Reds where Cincinnati scored 10 runs, there’s only been one other start in his five this year where an opponent has scored first.

Brewers vs Reds: YRFI (Play at ProphetX)

The Milwaukee Brewers are another team that’s running a four-game streak of games with YRFI, and they visit a Cincinnati Reds side that’s seen a first inning run scored in 17 of its first 29 home games this season.

The Reds have been awfully supportive of starter Hunter Greene, getting him a first inning lead in three of his four starts in May. They also got off to a good start in this series, hanging two on Milwaukee in the first frame.

The Brew Crew have Freddy Peralta on the mound Tuesday, and his five starts in May all went scoreless. But that trend is in stark comparison to Milwaukee’s current eight-game win streak, where a YRFI has happened in six games.

Diamondbacks vs Braves: YFRI (Play at ProphetX)

Let’s wrap with the Arizona Diamondbacks vs. the Atlanta Braves, with two teams that rank inside the baseball’s Top 8 for YFRI in their games.

The D-Backs are first, seeing a run plate in the first inning in 38.89% of their games, while Atlanta is seeing it happen 28.66% of the time in their games.

Both teams are currently riding three-game YRFI streaks, and a fourth looks like it could be on the way.

Zac Gallen gets the call for Arizona, and he’s been thoroughly bombed in each of his last four starts (all Arizona losses) with Gallen allowing 19 runs in 21 1/3 innings. Two of those losses had a run scored in the first inning.

Spencer Strider is making just his fourth start of the year, and he’s 0-3 with a 4.50 ERA. He’s had one YRFI game already.
