The New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers will try to get the edge in a battle between two of the top teams in the National League as they meet for the third game of a four-game series on Wednesday night in Chavez Ravine.

While these teams can produce some great pitching matchups, that’s not what we have tonight, and I’ll be taking the Over in my Mets vs. Dodgers predictions below.

Let’s dive deeper into tonight’s game in my free MLB picks for Wednesday, June 4.

Mets vs Dodgers prediction

My Mets vs Dodgers best bet: Over 9.5 (-118 at BetMGM)

The New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers continue to play tight games against each other as they look for a leg up in what might be another NLCS battle at the end of this season. Each of the five games between these two teams this season has been decided by three runs or less, with the last two each being one-run games.

That might give the impression that these are all tightly played, low-scoring affairs. But already, Los Angeles and New York have combined for two double-digit totals, and it’s worth noting that they totaled at least 10 runs in four of the six games in their playoff series last year.

These are two effective offensive teams. That’s particularly true when it comes to the Dodgers, who are averaging 5.77 runs per game, second-highest in the majors. The Mets are no slouches either, putting up 4.41 runs per game. That’s slightly above league average, and I expect a lineup featuring Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto, and Pete Alonso to only improve those numbers as the year continues.

Of course, both teams also have plenty of quality pitching that has the capability of keeping even strong lineups in check. But we won’t be seeing the best of either starting rotation on Wednesday night.

After a great 2022 campaign, Tony Gonsolin struggled in 2023 before he missed the entire 2024 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. So far in 2025, Gonsolin has a 5.23 ERA over 31 innings of work, allowing a concerning eight home runs and walking 4.4 batters per nine innings. In a previous start against the Mets on May 24, Gonsolin allowed four runs on seven hits over five innings of work in a Dodgers loss.

The Mets are countering with veteran Griffin Canning, who has been solid for New York after years of struggling with the Los Angeles Angels. But Canning has struggled over his last two starts, allowing six earned runs over 5.2 innings, while walking eight batters in that time span. Canning also has a previous start against the Dodgers this year, allowing three runs in 2.2 innings of work on May 23 before being pulled due to a rain delay.

This isn’t the kind of pitching matchup that leads me to believe these offenses will be silenced at Dodger Stadium tonight. The Mets and Dodgers have also played two straight extra-inning games, which could mean we’re digging deeper into both bullpens tonight. That’s enough for me to back the Over in tonight’s game.

Mets vs Dodgers same-game parlay (SGP)

Over 9.5

Mets +1.5

Soto 1+ rbi

I’ll start my same-game parlay with the same Over bet I picked as my best wager of the night, then combine that with taking the Mets on the run line. I don’t live in New York to win this game, but getting 1.5 runs is a nice boost for either of these teams, who have played two straight one-run games.

In a game where both pitchers are shaky, taking the underdog with the run line should have value.

Finally, I’ll take Mets star Juan Soto to pick up an RBI in tonight’s game. Soto has picked up his pace a bit in recent days, homering in three of his last four games and getting at least one RBI in four of his previous five. With a lot of runs on tap tonight, I’m taking Soto to continue this trend and knock in a run again in this game.

Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
