Football fans will have plenty to cheer for in June on the gridiron and the pitch.
Those who like their balls oblong and pointy can look forward to the return of the Canadian Football League, which kicks off its 70th season on June 6 when the Winnipeg Blue Bombers host the defending champion Montreal Alouettes in a repeat of last year's electrifying Grey Cup championship game. Further south, the United Football League will host its inaugural title game on June 16 in St. Louis, Missouri. The undefeated Birmingham Stallions have the shortest odds to win the 'chip, but don't count out the St. Louis Battlehawks, who boast a talented roster full of former NFL standouts.
Those who like their balls a little more rounded can delight in not one, but two major international soccer tournaments. Euro 2024 gets the party started on June 14 with a selection of must-see games in Germany. Not to be outdone, Copa America begins play six days later on June 20 when top-seeded Argentina faces off against Canada in group stage play. This year's event will be held at venues throughout the U.S. for just the second time in tournament history.
Mind you, those aren't the only must-see events in June. Sports fans can also look forward to the Belmont Stakes, the U.S. Open, Wimbledon, and the NBA and NHL drafts.
