Kentucky Oaks Picks and Predictions: Don't Sleep On Travel Column

If Travel Column works out a trip similar to her most recent, this filly is a very dangerous contender in the Kentucky Oaks.

The Kentucky Oaks is one of the highlights of the weekend at Churchill Downs, with the top three-year-old fillies racing at 1 1/8 miles today, April 30.

Racing analyst Monique Vag gives her free picks and predictions for the 2021 Kentucky Oaks, including her favorite trifecta bet.

Kentucky Oaks pick analysis

A pair of undefeated fillies in Malathaat and Search Results headline a field of now 13 horses after Ava's Grace was scratched due to injury.

Outside of those two with perfect records, Brad Cox's Travel Column looks to add to her recent success and follow up on her most recent score in the Fair Grounds Oaks.

While it looks tight at those top positions, a few long shots can spice up the bottom of your exotic wagers. Here's a look at the three horses I will be using to round out my 2021 Kentucky Oaks trifecta pick:

Win: No. 10 Malathaat (John Velazquez, Todd Pletcher)

This filly enters the Oaks undefeated with a perfect 4-for-4 record, including two recent graded stakes scores.

To finish off her two-year-old campaign, she had to work really hard down the lane to get up in time at the top of the stretch in the Grade 2 Demoiselle, displaying a ton of grit after having every excuse not to reach. She followed that up with another gutsy score in her three-year-old debut, running down Pass the Champagne late.

With a strong pedigree and hopefully enough speed upfront early, this filly should thrive racing at the 1 1/8-mile distance and looks like a clear-cut choice in the Kentucky Oaks.

Place: No. 6 Travel Column (Florent Geroux, Brad Cox)

She was able to turn the tables on rival Clairiere in the Fair Grounds Oaks, where this filly sat right behind pacesetter Souper Sensational. She was able to fend off some late closers and was put to a hand ride in a victory totaling just shy of three lengths.

The race set up perfectly for her and the ideal fractions made it very easy for this filly to pounce late. If she works out a trip similar to her most recent, this filly is very dangerous.

Show: No. 1 Pauline's Pearl

Looks like a logical contender to use underneath in any of your exotic wagers, based on her racing style and pedigree. She's coming off a victory in the Grade 3 Fantasy Stakes where this filly came through as the short-priced favorite capitalizing off a perfect trip.

While the rail post may prove to be a tricky one to navigate, she looks to save some ground and make one late rally. If she's able to navigate through and avoid some traffic trouble, she’ll get up in time for a decent piece at big odds.

Where can I bet on the Kentucky Oaks?

This all depends on where you live. If you’re in the USA, betting on the Kentucky Oaks online isn’t as simple as launching your favorite sportsbook app. Instead, you’ll have to use a specialist-pooled horse racing betting site such as TwinSpires.

Those in Canada or the UK have it much easier, as most sports betting sites offer horse racing markets. Check out our complete Where to Bet on the Kentucky Derby page for complete details.
