What a letdown indeed. Fortunately, I never got around to making the bet so I dodged a bullet. It's one thing if he missed out by like 1/10th of a second and finishes second or something, but settling for 8th and losing by nearly a whole second? That's a major disappointment.

On the whole, Americans are sucking so far during these Olympics so I'd tread lightly on the US going forward
I agree with that in every case except for the X-games events. Americans have won quite a few medals where they weren't supposed to in slopestyle and halfpipe. The better statement would be heavy American favourites have been a disappointment.

Yes and no. The snowboarding slopestyle were surprise golds but the men's half pipe was a disaster with 4 legitimate contenders (White, Gold, Davis and Bretz) only to come away with nothing.
Speed skating has been a disaster on all fronts and the moguls and aerials of freestyle skiing have been underwhelming in comparison to recent Games.
Alpine skiing has been light with only Mancuso's bronze. Vonn's injury certainly hurts but nothing from Bode Miller yet so Ligety may be the best hope.
We'll see...lots of time left but it has been an overall disappointment.
