I'm checking the first half bet on the Clips as to secure our bet just in case I'll come to conclusion that Marvin Williams' absence gonna be a factor. So far it did have move a line half a point. From my experience - the first game played without a starter has opposite reaction and undermanned team plays better. Remains to be seen
yes you are right!

Both games this season were very close between the teams due to strong first half performances by the Jazz. That is rare for the Clippers as they usually dominate in the first halves. I'll keep watching the line changes on the first half as they mostly reflect the true money turning in. If something - it'll be posted

Your absolutely right about being 2-0 being the only thing that matters. !00 percent is easier getting 2/2 then 5/5. It's great watching a 'capper that is safe and selective with his picks. That creates better money management and better decisions. I guess a big part of betting for people is they are action junkies and it becomes like gambling. Also everyone in their own certain way wants instant gratification at all times, so if we lose a bet, we instantly want to get are money back (and more) when things don't go our way. As an old poker pro Mike Caro used to say people lose bets or at poker and consider themselves "down for the day" and gamble too fast and too hard to get it back. The truth is you are never "down for the day" you are always simply even. When the money is gone, its gone and you have to start over from the new balance of money you have. The problem instead is that we consider ourselves as losing money and we try and get it back without using the same judgement we had to start the day and end up getting ourselves into more trouble and more debt. The funny thing is (like yourself Marvin) if people were truly in it simply for the money, they would make smart safe picks and use better logic to expand their bankroll. I appreciate all the insight you have given on picks Mavin and also the fact that you use great money management skills in the bets you make. There really isn't many 'cappers that see ten basketball games and might bet on one or even none if the odds weren't stacked in their favor to make a safe pick. THANKS AGAIN AND BOL MAVIN

You right about us being action junkies. The thing is containing it and replacing it - like right now I'm rooting for your bet on the Spurs and will be as happy if they win for you - so my craving for action is taken care of. Once you get control over your cravings and addictions - they're not addictions or cravings anymore

I can admit in the past I have been a bit of an action junkie and its hard to take my own advice but you are showing me the advantage of making safer, selective picks.

Exactly, same goes for the wins!

Mavin you're a breath of fresh air to this forum... Your attitude and wisdom has really rubbed off on me and since I started reading your threads I've been making steady profits.
I'm on Washington tonight too. Congrats on your already profitable day

Tough luck on the Detroit bet fellas... Those types of losses really take their toll on ya... Been their hundreds of times. It's what makes basketball so frustrating.
Better to lose by 1 point than by 20 though. Shows your doing something right.

uyyy misssed the detroit game by half a point...had it the whole game too...they could have called a foul with less then a sec left but i knew that they wouldn't....my SA bet went just as i planned though and Parker had 21 pts 9 assists and 5 rebounds

What's done is done. Same as I don't celebrate after 20 point wins - I don't get down after a half point losses. It's done and forgotten. The conclusions entered into the notes and moving on to the next one.
Grats on the Spurs.
Thanks Fuzzrod and melosjumper7

Marvin, u ever consider buying points? I'm guessing the answer is no because u lose value and trust in original pick. Just curious your input, I'm a sucker for buying half points cause I haaaate the possibility of losing by that much. Such as Detroit tonight with your bet.
BTW man love your thread, I would have been bored quickly by this website if not for you and a few key posters input!

I bought 1/2 point and got a push as I had Detroit -2.
Whenever I make a pick to cover a spread my tendency is to buy the 1/2 point down to make sure I have a push on the game in play rather than being stung by the 1/2 point!

I don't really get the lost value by buying a 1/2 point. Tonight I bought 1/2 point on the Piston game and pushed. (Had the Pistons at -2) Losing the bet is far worse than the lost value on not buying the 1/2 point! I got my money back! Thats value!

I've noticed Mavin on a lot of your bets you rarely take the team that's expected to win when they have a large spread to cover. Is that true or is it just the value you've been seeing lately in other games??

Agree that's my thinking as well and why i buy it also, however im conflicted as rationally thinking the typical roughly 10% more u put up for that half point will not pay off in long run unless a push happens more than 1 outta 10 times. I think they happen less frequently than that

I do that from time to time when I expect the original line to cash in and the line has moved. However - it's rare for me as I like to take bets that I feel are going to end way over the line. If there's something to take from today's half a point loss is that when Detroit was up at the halftime by 10 points and the line for the second half was Milwaukee -1.5 - I should have identified the tendency - which I obviously did not - that despite the Pistons dominating the house says the Bucks will come back. I could have played the Bucks -1.5 risking the overall bet, but on the other hand securing the bet not to lose with the chance to win from both sides. There is a very thin line between wasting a win and securing it or doubling the profit and it's identification lays with the right analysis of what is offered. I failed in that department today and as a result lost a bet that if a lesson will be learned - will result in more profits in the future. I learned that from the best - embrace your losses and learn from each and every one of them. I'm not saying I can always be successful in doing that - but I try and getting better in that. That is what we should try to do. at all times. The same capper who has been my inspiration in the way I handicap has one say that I use in all aspects of my life: No Fear!

Never gave it a thought - but now after you pointed it out - I will be more attentive to that notion

There are no such things in the sports handicapping as jinxing . That's an excuse for people to justify their losses. Remember that any loss is a win for the backers of the other side. And , besides, I'm far from losing record wise or money wise. He either tailed only losing plays (I'm 10-5) or is simply playing many games besides mine.
Very wise my fellow friend..just dont like when people losing money they stary bashing tsk tsk.. And post the pick not even his
Thank you sir
