i have a a legit version of XP, purchased at the Microsoft store by an employee (not me). I have the original box, but not the original CD cover with the 25 number key. I just replaced a broken hard drive, and i am stuck in the re-loading of the operating system because i can't enter the 25 number key. any suggestions ?, i've checked the box, and i can't find anything that looks like 25 number key.

It wouldn't be on the outside of the box, it would of been on the inside of the box. On the folder that the CD came in.
You are pretty much out of luck, because MS has blocked tons of the generator keys.
But there is a way........Call MS and tell them that the cd is scratched and won't read in the cd-rom. They wilil ask you the number on the inner hub of the cd and once they verify it's legit, they will send you out another CD with a new key. They won't even ask you to send the old one in.
