No G3 chases tonight, but some G2 chases in Carolina, Buffalo and Edmonton.

Carolina is 11-3 in G1 chases.  When the G2 line is 5.5, they are 2-0 this season.  I like the under to make it 3-0.

Buffalo is 9-5 in G1 chases, 7-3 when the total was 5.5.  Of the 5.5 G1 chase losers, Buffalo's G2 chases are 2-2 to the over.  Buffalo is predominantly an under team after an OT.  They are 13-1 in three game chases this season.

Edmonton is 5-7 in G1 chases where the line was 5.5.  Of those 7 loses, 6 of the G2s had a 5.5 line.  Of these 6 G2 chases, all 6 have finished under 5.5.  There has not been a single G3 chase for Edmonton when the lines on the first two games have been 5.5.  Let's make it 7-0 to the under tonight.

A few G3 chases tonight in Ottawa, Carolina and Florida.

Ottawa is 11-3 in O/U series chases this season.  Ottawa started out hot playing unders.  The last three series they are 0-3.  Not good.  Either their scoring is up or their defense is down.  The line is 5.5, which has been the line for each of the last 27 qualifying games.  Don't be suprised with a late goal to push this OVER.

Carolina is 13-1 in O/U series chases this season.  All 13 have been won by the G2 chase.  G3 chases are 0-1 with this team.  The line is 6, but they are playing Washington who has a history of making a game fly over the total.  So I like the OVER here.

Florida O/U series chases is 17-0 this season.  This record is in jeopardy tonight.  They are 10-8 in G1 chases, 5-3 in G2 chases, and 2-0 in G3 chases.  Looking to make that 3-0.  The line is 5.5 and Florida takes on Columbus who is 7-8 in G1 chases of their own.  Columbus seems to go back and forth betweem G1 wins and losses, last time was a loss.  I like the UNDER play here.

Edmonton has the lone G3 chase today.  Edmonton chases are 13-1 this season.  All 13 have been won by the second game of the chase.  Last Edmonton G3 went over the total of 5.5.  The line is 5 playing against Minnesota.  While this may seem easy as long as both teams score at least two goals, Minnesota has been an UNDER machine all year.  Minnesota series chases is 15-0 this season, with only one going to that third game.  Good luck!!

I do not believe this would hold true.  It must not hold true for last year, and most definitely not from two or three years ago when the scoring was altered and more goals were being scored on a per game basis. 

From page 1 of this thread, here are the numbers from last season.  The season started out slowly, most 5 and 6 line games were going under and a lot of the 5.5 games were going over... The first half of the season breaks down this way....

System A: In the 3-game ANY team chase, series went 182-25 (+7 UNITS)
System B: In the 2-game ANY team chase, series went 149-60 (-31 UNITS)
System C: In the 3-game HOME team chase, series went 92-11 (15 UNITS)
System D: In the 2-game HOME team chase, series went 76-28 (-8 UNITS)


In the second half of the season, most of the 5.5 lines were hitting under and there were less of the 5.0 and 6.0 lines, a MUCH better record was attained.  There were a lot of pushes in this half of the season at 5.0 (3-2 was a common score, most going into OT).

System A: In the 3-game ANY team chase, series went 268-24 (+100 UNITS)
System B: In the 2-game ANY team chase, series went 236-55 (+71 UNITS)
System C: In the 3-game HOME team chase, series went 132-13 (+41 UNITS)
System D: In the 2-game HOME team chase, series went 121-24 (+49 UNITS)


Most of the System A wins came late in the season feuled by an incredible 42-2 series run (+28 UNITS) in March to close the season)


Putting this altogether:
System A was 450-49 (+107 UNITS)
System B was 385-115 (+40 UNITS)
System C was 224-24 (+56 UNITS)
System D was 197-52 (+41 UNITS)


What does this mean?  Well, since system A was the big winner last season and not B, one could conclude that most of the series wins in A were picked up in the third game.  I will verify this in the next couple days.  Also, since C was more profitable than D, one can conclude the same argument.  For B to lose, for example, that second game must have lost, and therefore so did the first. 

This year, B is more profitable than A, which indicates that A has been taking a pounding on the third game.  Remember, the damage from an A system loss is far greater than from a B system loss, so it takes fewer third game losses to bring down the profits. 

I will run the numbers from last year and let you know what they are.  I think this is something you have to spot as a trend while the season is young and adjust for it around mid season.  This season started out with a bang and has been tailing off ever since I started posting, go figure LOL.  Last year was the complete opposite.  Thanks for the question!!

After the season I will be looking for ways to eliminate determine what sets Vancouver apart from the rest of the league.  I do not know if it is their poor defense or very good offense.  But what ever the reason, a lot of the Vancouver series were lost betting the UNDER while the total flies OVER.  If anyone would like to help identify unique qualities of each team, please send me a PM.  See ya.

Very good observation Ryanp!  Makes a lot of sense.  There is inconsistency at the goalie position and hence the lines makers have not adjusted for this fact.  Thanks for the comment!

Minnesota loses first three-game series of the season last night when the total stayed under the 5.0.  Now 15-1.  Also, Edmonton losing sets up a match with Phoenix on Thursday.  Both teams are on G3 chases.  Tread carefully!

Minnesota and Edmonton losing their G3 home initiated chases the last few nights really killed the C system.  Otherwise C would be +60 units instead of +46. 

As we near the end of the hockey season, our first stipulation for OT games may come into play tonight.  The stipulations are... if a team has 5 games or less remaining, they will not be added to the chase list and if a team already in a G1 or G2 chase loses and has less than 8 games remaining, they will not be added as a second chase.  Carolina may fit this mold should their game end up in OT over the total.

Phoenix is 8-0 in series chases this year.  Only once has a series gone to G3, back in November.  That game went under the 5.5 posted total.  Edmonton, seems like I am writing everyday about these guys!  They are 13-2 in series chases and 0-2 in G3 this season.  In those G3's, The O/U is 1-1.  The posted total is 5.5 tonight and the last meeting between these two went under the total.  All combined chase games for Edmonton are 12-15 to the OVER and all Phoenix chase games are 7-8 to the OVER.  So the slight edge is the UNDER.  Let's get the cash!
