    The "Buddah System"

So this is a test of this system developed by Buddah - here is the link to a word doc that has the links to the threads on covers and I consolidated it into the word doc as well

    https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B5dydT9Oe6JbTTZjU1JYbFhtRFk/edit?usp=sharing

The idea is to build a database of similar matchups over the season and the results of those matchups which will "hopefully" allow you to predict the result of a similar matchup later in the season

Here is the link to the automated spreadsheet

    https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B5dydT9Oe6JbWFlzRV81Mmw3dG8/edit?usp=sharing

    Features:

    ·         Click update each day to refresh Sagarin Rankings, Odds, and Pitchers

    ·         Ability to Refresh Odds, and Add games to Database

    ·         You can download from the link above:

DeGen, for the Buddah System, exactly how do I do this?  Do I just hit "update" everyday to update the database or do I have to hit the "Add to DB" first?

I'll start a new thread on it.  It looks like it might be awhile before there's a play as the DB only goes back to 5/7.  Also, at the trading deadline, do I just clear contents in the MLB DB tab to make a new DB as per the instructions?  I would of course keep a copy of the pre deadline as history, for next year.

    Let's check this out!

Buckeye - yeah just click update each day and make sure you are looking at the right date (ie today's games) - then click add to DB. This just copies the games to the DB tab - then at the end of night go to the DB tab and manually record the result of the game - win or loss. If there are any plays listed that day it is listed in the Summary tab under potential plays column - I set it up so you can vary the range or how close you are to the play in the DB in the yellow cell listed as range on top which is now set to three - which means it will l

Look for records within 3 - ie its a SF 50 vs 40 then it will look for results of SF of 47 to 53 vs 37 to 43. You would use zero if you want exact matches

Yeah it may take awhile to get the DB built too bad we started late - and yeah keep a copy and start new after all star break. Maybe even keep 2 version - one for all year and one that has the breaks as suggested by Buddah

    Lucky-

Just wanted to say what I did here was minimal...Degen deserves 100% of the credit for these spreadsheets.  I only made a few tiny fixes that almost anyone with a little programming knowledge could have done.

I don't have much interest in building a website...I've done several and it always ends up being 10 times the work it seems like from the beginning. Also, I have a fair amount of side projects that keep my plate very full at the moment.  Degen's reference above is a good one.  If you really want to pay somebody, there are an unlimited number of programmers that do contract work around the internet.

DeGen, can I change the odds in the DB.  The reason is that I added to the MLB DB early cause of the 12/1 pm games and odds for a team at that time was -124 and by their game time hours later, they were a soft dog.
I'm going to have to start a thread...2 plays today!!!  NYY and LAA

Buckeye - yes you can change it - just remember that the OddsType (i.e SF=small Favorite, SOF = Solid Favorite - is determined by the odds) - so you will have to change that too if it falls out of the range.  On the Summary page at the bottom - you can see the scale I used to determine what type of favorite it was.  So after adding it to the DB - you can adjust it if you get different odds.

Most likely it will fall within the same range.  So it porbably won't change the odds type.

As for plays - I would think it's still unofficial - NYY and LAA are only 1-0 with the same type of matchup - so the sample size is small, but maybe start a thread and track the preliminary plays.  I would think you would want a team to have a WIN% of 80% or better (at least that's what I have set to now) and have at least 4-5 games fall under those conditions.  So I would feel better about the plays if NYY were 5-1 under the same conditions.

But start a thread and make these unofficial preliminary plays.  Lets see what happens

Degen, after I went and changed all the odds, I went and reread Buddah's comments again for a refresher and saw that he uses "Opening Lines" as his basis odds, which you have being pulled from whatever website (btw, because its the opening odds, the refresh button doesn't do anything!)
So I had to scrap what I had, and redownload and, unless you can tell me where I can get the opening odds for dates 5/13 to 5/18, I gotta start the DB again from today, as the ( - ) to the left of "TODAY" will take you back to a day's game but keeps the current day's pitcher/odds.  I'm a dork!
I will keep with it, learn more about it and in a few weeks, near the time a play should possibly come up, I'll start the forum with links to the rules/spreadsheet etc.  I need to learn more about exactly how he has a play going...I don't want to say "cause the spreadsheet says so!"

Ok, I found it.  Uhm, we want to KEEP the opening line and have that go into the DB.  Having the current line also (like the UD sys) would help decide/comfirm the plays, but we need the opening line for the DB.
Also, I'll add some earlier days from before you made the sheet (5/7?).  Maybe we can get the DB built up.

Well you won't have Sagarin rankings prior to 5/7 - that's why we can't backtest and have to track for the season - ill fix the sheet and send another version

Buckeye - I uploaded a new version of the Buddah system spreadsheet (V2)

    https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B5dydT9Oe6JbWFlzRV81Mmw3dG8/edit?usp=sharing

Download this version and make sure you copy over your DB to the MLB DB tab

So here is what i did

    1) fixed the schedule so it is dynamic - not hardcoded
    2) fixed the sagarin link for some reason the link I was using would only update once a week - this one should update daily
    3) There are time when a pitcher is not found in Sagarin - i.e (rookie or hasn't pitched this season) - in this case I will take the average of all rankings (rank, MOB, Rickey)
    4) added current and opening odds from Vegas Insider - the copy to DB grabs the opening odds.

Test is out let me know if you find any bugs - hopefully we can start seeing some plays soon to test it out.

    Hi Leprechaun and degengamble.

I'm don't post much on here but you guys are doing a great job.

Leprechaun will you put your automated spreadsheet for your own system, I used to follow you 2-3 years ago and it was great.

I'm trying to use the super systems spreadsheet. The first time I used it today, I've update the data and after the schedule. But I have some #value on 3 of the systems and wondered if it's normal. System #3, 5 and 6 and only have plays on the #7 wich is st-louis, boston and arizona.  Is this normal?

Thanks for you answer and hard work

Degen...after I posted that last post, I realized that about all the pitchers stats!  I wish we could edit our posts.  Cool about the opening/current lines...follow the money.  I've been busy with painting a bathroom, best man at my wife's brothers wedding, and just being a father to get it started (the new thread), Oh and I do have a full time job.

Grecycle, I just updated my copy, and I have none of that.  Sys #6 has SF, NYY, Tex and Bos.  Sys #7 has Stl, Bos, and Az.  I update first then update schedule.  No value etc.

Good to see you on here...I remember you from a couple years back.  Looks like Buckeye answered your question.  I'm still running my series system...although I've tweaked things quite a bit.  It's going VERY well so far this season, although that's probably because I'm not posting it  I just don't have time at the moment.  My automated sheets are nowhere near ready for general use (i.e. not user friendly).  I've been optimizing the code and incorporating some of Degen's code and the underdog system to improve my system.  Maybe I'll post plays and the sheet the second half of the season if I have enough free time to get it ready.

As far as what's going on in this forum at the moment, what Degen and DanRules are doing is fantastic.  It's a lot of work that has been paying great dividends and those guys deserve all the credit for their hard work.  Follow that underdog thread...it's one of the best that has been on here in awhile.

Aahhh 2007 version, that's your problem.  You need to upgrade to at least the 2010 version.  I had the same problems.  I downloaded a trial version to see if it worked on my laptop, and then I went and bought a new laptop anyway!!

I've been keeping up with a number of systems (or trying to, I'm slowly weeding them out) and this system is doing a lot better than the Supersystems.
That said, DeGen had a thread from last year that I found that dealt with the automated Supersystems, I can post them on there.

As far as Supersytems - use it any which way you want - I posted the PDF and links to the website for the revisions that bob bies posted - the reason why I didn't update the spreadsheet for this year is most of the time the plays coincided with the RPI system - so why go through updating them
When most of the plays matched the RPI system - on a side note i was thinking about a chase system that looked at the next 3 days of match ups for each team - then use criteria like RPI, starting pitchers whip, obp for each team, etc. the idea is if a team has better stats than their opponent in the next 3 games for ALL those games you would start a 3 game chase. This will allow you to take advantage of winning streaks - thoughts?

You think you could do a spreadsheet using all those stats??!!!  .  I think it would do well.

I haven't fully updated my stats on the SuperSystems fully, I'm about a week behind, but I'm checking out a 3g chase using the RPI spreadsheet, starting on the A game (no 2g series).  Since Apr 29th, it's 21-1, +20.84 units, not including yesterdays A games.  If you filter it with a no -150 or higher play (on the A play), it's +9.84u.  This is using Cover's final lines.

Another play I'm following is using TeamRankings.com Home and Away power rankings.  I don't know where I heard it, but you take the corresponding rankings for Home/Away and compare them.  If the difference is 1 or higher, you play the higher ranked team for a 3g chase, starting on the A game.  You compare the rankings only on the A game.  From Apr 29th, this system is 59-4, +33.34 units, not including yesterday's A games.   If you filter it with a no -150 or higher play (on the A play), it's +15.34u.  This is using Cover's final lines also.

Another note, I've gone through and tried a 3g chase on ALL the games that come up on the RPI sheet, whether an A game or not.  That doesn't work, everything is in the negative.  Start a chase on the A game only.  Same with the TR rankings.
