I traveled to Russia and Turkey last summer—12 hour flight from Los Angeles to Istanbul. Then 5 hours to Moscow, then stopped and interrogated by the FSB for 6 hours. Well, at least they allowed me into Russia. Many others from the US are denied entry. Even though the Russian government approved my three year tourist visa. I also missed my connecting flight to Samara and had to buy another ticket and wait 16 hours at the Moscow airport. Lol. But I had a lot of fun. But the long flights are a huge pain.

That is wild! Yeah I had zero clue that Americans could even enter Russia. I haven't been far out of the country, but considering somewhere in the Med for our honey moon

Yes, Americans can get Russian tourist visas. The visa process was easy.
The Mediterranean area is all beautiful! Turkey was much nicer than Russia, to be honest. Better weather, food and friendlier people. I’m considering Spain and Italy this summer.
When is your wedding? Congrats!
