MADISON, Wis. (AP)—A prosecutor who has been pondering for eight months whether to file sexual assault charges against Green Bay Packers backup cornerback Brandon Underwood(notes) said Monday that she’s waiting for information from the state crime lab.

Two women accused Underwood in June of sexually assaulting them at a Lake Delton condo. Sauk County District Attorney Patricia Barrett said in a letter to The Associated Press that the investigation is still active, and in a brief follow-up telephone interview on Monday said she is waiting for what she called “information” from the state crime lab. She declined to elaborate.

The state Justice Department runs the crime lab. Agency spokesman Bill Cosh said department investigators assisted Lake Delton Police in the probe and have completed their work. Justice Department executive assistant Steve Means said the lab should not be blamed for delays in the case.

“She’s in control of the investigation at this point,” Means said of Barrett. “The crime lab does what it does. If there’s a delay, it doesn’t rest with Madison.”

Means declined to elaborate.

Underwood’s attorney, Richard Kaiser, declined to comment.

“I don’t know how long it takes for Sauk County to do their work,” he said.

The case began during the early morning hours of June 5, when police were called to a condo where several Packers players were staying during a charity golf event.

Two Milwaukee women who met the players hours earlier at a bar said a group of Packers had sexually assaulted them.

After the women were questioned, however, they changed their statements to say only one player assaulted them, Lake Delton Police Chief Tom Dorner said in the days following the alleged assault.

Police cleared six of seven Packers players of wrongdoing, including star linebacker Clay Matthews(notes) and backup quarterback Matt Flynn(notes). The case took another twist when investigators announced that the alleged suspect and the women exchanged money before the alleged assault.

A message left with the Lake Delton Police on Monday wasn’t immediately returned.

In a brief statement to reporters in June, Underwood apologized to the team but declined to discuss the allegations.

The second-year player has played in 12 regular season games and all three of the Packers’ playoff games this season.

Maybe since the Defensive Player Of The Year Award was fixed to give it to Troy as opposed to Clay.... then that means the superbowl will be given to GB, instead of Pitt....

Maybe Big Ben's off-field issues will prevent him from getting another ring and the NFL gives the Lombardi Trophy to the Packers through the Refs....

With so many great points and opinions from both sides, its like the beginning of football season. You don't know what team is going to come out flat and which team will come out firing on all cylinders. This season, it seems that the Packers has definitely been the horse that comes out of the gate like it just had something shoved up his ass. Quick strikes and down the track they go. Whereas Steelers had a few games where the opposing team scores on the opening drive if not the opening kickoff. In this matchup, the field definitely favors the Packers game. Fast and artificial. Kinda like Polumalu's hair on how it grows. I think the only way that Steelers win this game is if everyone on defense wears a wig that looks like Troy's hair. That way Aaron Rodgers has nowhere to throw with out flinching.

GB -2.5 - I'm going with the team with the best momentum, even given the 2 week layoff.  As some have mentioned, it wouldn't surprise me if the Steelers win SU. Rogers high passer rating, especially in the playoffs and the weak O line of Pittsburgh will be their undoing. SCORE: Packers 21-Steelers 18.

GB/PIT UNDER 45 - the UNDER may be the best bet of the day, a solid bet down to 44.5, IMHO.

This is my pick on the COVERS playoff contest, currently sitting at 16-4-0.  I'm hoping the leaders will side with Pittsburgh and the over, but we shall see.

I'm not gonna lie, I like the Steelers here. I feel they are more tested and stand a better chance when it comes down to a tight game right at the end.

I wasn't impressed with what Green Bay did to a lousy Bears team.

I have not posted in months, but I have handicapped this outstanding SuperBowl game:

factors I used in determining my pick:

1) aggregate ages of the Rosters:

GB is the 3rd youngest team in the NFL; Pitt has the OLDEST aged roster. To my knowledge, NO team has ever won the big game as the OLDEST aged team.

2) Turf conditions: many other posters properly reported how GB was not so sharp at CHI, laying goose eggs in the 3rd and 4th Q's, but CHI's field is one of the worst in the NFL. Jerry Jones' World has a FAST track. Not sloppy like Soldier's Field. Hint: GB 48, Atl 24.

3) PITT C Pouncey is probably out. S Polomalu will start, but is he 100%? PITT lineman Starks Questionable.

GB is actually relatively healthier right now.

4) Yes NYJ almost came back against PITT. yes CHI almost came back against GB. Both teams are very capable "front-runners"( maintaining a lead). The difference here: the GB/CHI game was a RIVALRY, the NYJ/PITT was not a rivalry. CHI had the edge of being really familiar with their division rival; PITT lost to NYJ at PITT, but did manage to avenge that loss( barely). In that avenged win for PITT, that bad call against NYJ QB Sanchez when his arm WAS going forward, PITT recovers, scores. That score was the difference in that game. The CHI/GB game? GB QB Rogers' was zeroing in on a 21-0 lead until LB Urlacher intercepted that pass. GB seemed to be able to make big plays when they need them( don't forget the INT by GB vs. PHI's  Vick when it looked like they might beat the Pack).. 

5) Only THREE( 3) teams as a Wild-card entrant has ever been favored: 1) 2000 ravens -3 over NYG, PITT favored over SEA -4, and this year GB - 2.56( some -3's popping up). Those two other wild card fav's are 2-0. The trend favors the Pack.

 6) Generally speaking, the Fav wins more SuperBowls than loses them. In the years 1998 - 2009 the dogs covered over half of the years indicated, but since 1967 SuperBowl era the Fav wins.

7) GB has the better team speed. PITT is more of a "grinder". PITT cannot afford a slow start, and when they are way behind, they struggle. See NE game. GB has that type of team that can score quickly, and can comeback if needed. They have not lost a game by more than 7 points all year long.

8) Yes PITT did overcome the halftime loss vs. BAL, but I think that it was more of BAL's WR's dropping the balls on 4th down that doomed them, and the penalty on that PR hurt BAL. BAL choked.

9 Yes PITT has the experience, and the Pack is young.
