ABC revealed on Friday, September 26, the Jimmy Kimmel show had dropped back down to an average of 2.3 million viewers, a fall of 64 percent.

According to the most recent Nielsen Ratings, before being briefly taken off the air for "truly sick" comments as stated by the FCC Chair Brendan Carr, Kimmel’s show was averaging about 1.77 million viewers during the second quarter of 2025.

In 2024, TV Guide reported that Jimmy Kimmel Live! has seen a viewership decline of 70% to 80% since 2015.

Prior to Charlie Kirk's assassination, ABC executives were already planning to fire Kimmel due to below acceptable ratings for the network, and claimed that the show has no future path to profitability into 2026.
