 Sure it is Mugg, his reply was actually an insult to the post several above his. That post was discussing my earlier comment which is the same as I replied to him that discussion does not take place here and what does he do? Counter replies pointing fingers and partisan divide yet again.

I like discussion and I make discussion quite regularly but what I dislike and will reply to is partisan garbage and he more than many on your side plays that tune over and over and over. 

So was Trump the first the best the only the original with regards to tariffs? Of course not...so why does both Trump and your side need to back slap that concept when anyone with a few cells in their head know that tariffs are a direct tax on the consumer. Add that China has 100x workarounds to any "tariff" we throw their way and it does little to no damage to their economy.

Do you guys want to get China? Then identify critical imports that China relies on and shut them down...that is how you hit China. Ban their vehicles imports, ban their electronic imports, ban their consumer goods imports. We are not wanting to make an impact, solar and metal tariffs are grandstanding yawners which do little but hey they are a big statement maker for politicians.

 One more small item...your claim about left threads- we have discussed this so many times and the truth is that those threads are not wanting your involvement they are not seeking conversation with your side at all. You are not required or even suggested to reply in those threads and you are not required to reply in ANY thread in the entire site/forum. Those guys like to discuss left topics and cheer themselves over and over, that is not breaking the rules. Making jabs about conservatives in general is inching up to the line of the site rules but is not a direct across the board rule breaker. You know where I am going with this, when another member insults another member DIRECTLY and specifically now that is breaking the rules and is cause for taking action.

I do not like partisan threads, I do not like their approach and I think it does not create conversation and is petty and of little value and to an extent we allow it on BOTH sides, your group has threads and in the past as you know there were MANY MANY MANY threads, but some of the thread makers are less active now or have decided it is not worth the annoyance, but you cant say that it is one-sided at all. What you and your side should learn (and never seem to even though it has been suggested so many times) is to never attack other members, not in this sub-forum not in other forums not at all. What gets people boxed/banned is direct insults and attacks to other members not partisan generalizations or conversations. I'd rather not see either side huddle and babble but we allow that much more than attacking and insulting directly.

Any facts about how Trump’s policies encouraged inflation is attacked as not real. Really, tariffs do cause inflation.

This is the counter question to the biggest economic issue in the last couple of years:

If tariffs caused inflation than why did Biden leave them in place and add more? 

Then this is the next response:

This is the problem with the Left in the forum.  When they are questioned about an issue they bring up, they avoid that particular topic.  Or, at best, cloud it with other issues; or, at worst use it as an opportunity to bash Trump.  The hatred for Trump has made too many unhinged and noncredible on the issues themselves. 

The question remains the same for the issue:  IF tariffs cause inflation (and, if that were a huge cause of concern for the USA) why did Biden keep them in place and add more?  Whether Trump is the first to use tariffs or is a bad person is not the topic.

By and large, tariffs are bad for the folks but good for the individual companies.  They are, in a sense, anti-freetrade.  

There is far more at play with the current inflation than tariffs.  Tariffs, themselves, do not cause inflation at large.  They can have isolated inflationary effects in industries, etc.

I have addressed this with tariffs, subsidies, duties, and taxes on here before.  There can be some reasons to use targeted tariffs, especially for short terms.  They will generally not lead to overall inflation in the economy.  They certainly were not the cause of the current inflation.

Ive discussed tariffs in more depth and longer term than you have here and I am not sure what that has to do with anything. We agree that tariffs are not a full inflationary event, they are a POLITICAL EVENT. That is why Biden kept them, that is why Trump made them that is why any POTUS makes them to puff up their political capital and act like they are being tough when in reality it is not tough it accomplishes nothing.

If we wanted to hit China we could but we do not wish to do so and we never have.

That is exactly what the guy meant -- there is no discussion going on that way.  It is the same whether you 'follow the thread' or 'follow any other thread'.

I am not saying tariffs are always political.  There can be isolated reasons for a particular sector -- but they should be limited and short term.  

I addressed this in more detail on tariffs a few years back.  People, especially politicians, sometimes misunderstand what is trying to be achieved and the expectations.

There has to be an overall balance with the economy, the targeted sector and the politics.

There is no rebuttal for Uniman, he had no reason to go after the previous member as he did and that was the issue that brought me to the topic..as I continually bring up. 

If you really are interested in non-partisan discussion you are very poor at expressing it and being neutral, you are so far from neutral I dont see how you can suggest others do anything at all. What do you mean there is 'no rebuttal for Unman'?  I can think of several very good ones.  I may not agree with them.  But that is the advantage of seeing both sides of issues and being able to discuss them.  Maybe you cannot think of any good ones, so that is why you went straight to your usually Trump-bashing.

I am not spotless -- but I am not biased on issues by blind hatred.  So, yes, I can call out folks when they do not want to discuss issues and claim that they do when that was the very thing you replied to.

I have never claimed to be 'neutral'; that is your claim -- obviously you are far from neutral.  So, my comments are absolutely biased because these are subjects I have written and spoken on for years.  

But economics can largely be non-political to me.

As far as politics go, I have never even thought about trying to 'come off as something I am not'.  Unlike you, that want to claim not to be Far-Left.

So, maybe go back and attempt to actually discuss the issues with those guys instead of what you did.

Fears are mostly hypothetical.  Little evidence supports claim that allowing more immigrants mean letting in more terrorists.  Although border patrol arrest more suspects on watch list, that doesn't mean they are terrorists.  Watch list is very broad to cast as wide a net as possible.  Suspects are typically detained.  Those considered dangerous are expelled or deported.  Suspects are a tiny fraction of all immigrants.

Despite more immigration, domestic terrorism is still a greater threat.  For years, far right extremists are responsible for the majority of terrorist attacks in the US according to Homeland security department, Government accountability office and Center for strategic studies.
