(last week) the federal government plans to move forward with private
land seizures in the Rio Grande Valley to build sections of President
Trump’s border wall.
These land seizures will support the 33 miles of barrier (Levee wall
with bollards) in the Rio Grande Valley that were funded in the last
appropriations (Omnibus). Those segments should get contracted out this
year.
The Texas Tribune found that the federal government invoked a
little-known Great Depression-era law that allowed it to swiftly seize
land to build the barrier and compensate landowners later.”

Midnight1 may be right. Usually, new presidents are more successful passing unpopular policies early in term. In later years, policies tend to be harder to implement. So far, limited funding for repairs of existing barriers along border.
Besides, a wall is too costly and ineffective. Easier for illegal immigrants to fly to Canada before crossing US border. Also a more effective solution is to help improve conditions in central american countries so that people don't want to leave.
According to federalist, reforming legal immigration is more important than illegal immigration because legals far outnumber illegals. To boost economy, US should adopt Canada or Australia system of priority on job skills. Huge backlog of visa applicants deserve faster processing.
