WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden reported earning
$607,336 last year and paying $157,414 in federal income taxes.

The White House released the Bidens' tax returns and those of Vice President
Kamala Harris and second gentleman Doug Emhoff.

The transparency restores a White House tradition that was broken by
disgraced former President Donald Trump, who *REFUSED* to release his
as president, inspite of his PROMISE to do so.

It marks the 23rd year of tax returns released by Biden.

"I would expect that we will continue to release the president's tax returns,"
White House press secretary Jen Psaki said at Monday's press briefing,
"as should be expected by every president of the United States."

Biden administration promises to help vaccinate less fortunate countries.  US must help for several reasons.   First, the longer the virus spreads unchecked, the greater the risk that it will continue to mutate.  New and more deadly strains could spread to the US.   Secondly, global recession hurts everyone including rich nations.  Third, risk of greater instability and social unrest worldwide.  US foreign aid is usually under 1% of federal budget.  Now it is more important than ever for national security, economic recovery and ending of pandemic.

Both democrats and republicans agree on the need for more investment in infrastructure.  But limited funding is a problem.  State and local governments own 75% of the infrastructure but cannot afford to invest.  Only federal government can help with big projects.  Fantasy is that low taxes can pay for infrastructure.  Other countries can only afford better infrastructure because of higher taxes.  Since getting federal help is hard, states allow infrastructure to deteriorate badly.
