When boredom settles in, as it sometimes does nowadays, it is easy to unashamedly pine for the raw chutzpah, the erratic, paranoid, ziggity-zag craziness of Sarah Palin. It is akin to eating a bag of French-fried cheese, knowing that each nibble is so, so wrong. Despite her half-term as governor being about the worst thing for Alaska since Russian fur traders and Bill Walker, an unfathomable need for fireworks sometimes has me yearning for Palin to run for something, anything, just to swipe at the cobwebs and set the political world ablaze. In past dark moments, I even succumbed to urging this wrecking ball to run for the U.S. Senate or even once again for governor.
What in the wide world of sports was I thinking? And now, the 58-year-old opportunist populist is back. The mavericky, dysfunctional former chief soccer mom, who entered office with cult-like approval ratings and bailed out halfway through her tumultuous gubernatorial term to become the late Sen. John McCain’s ill-fated vice presidential pick, is running again for office.

The grim prospect of Palin loose in the U.S. House of Representatives with the likes of Greene, Boebert and Gaetz should scare the bejeebers out of us all. As governor, she was a magnet for ethics complaints and showed herself to be uninterested, uninvolved, vindictive and the unabashed master of facile generalizations. Alaskans should be thinking long and hard about the possible consequences of this election for the state and the nation. As for me, I’ll try to be more careful about what I wish for.

They went with Mary A conservationist.

Upset victory for a democrat winning in a state that has been a republican stronghold for decades. This might be a sign that republican wave coming to congress is weaker than expected.
