Senate votes to end shut down sending it to the house.

mall band of Senate Democrats voted with Republicans on Monday night to approve a funding measure to reopen the federal government — without securing their party’s demand to guarantee an extension of enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies, which help millions of Americans afford insurance.

The funding compromise will now go to the House, where GOP leaders are hopeful it could pass as soon as Wednesday and end the longest-ever US shutdown. The recently struck deal, which President Donald Trump is expected to sign, would restore critical services like federal food aid, as well as pay for hundreds of thousands of federal workers.

Eight members of the Senate Democratic caucus crossed the aisle to join with Republicans in the 60 to 40 vote. One Republican voted in opposition: Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky.

When millions of Americans find out themselves either lose health care insurance or see their health care premiums skyrocket from the next January. People will be fuming over the above two outcomes.

GOP got trounced in the 2018 midterms for the cause of attempting to repeal the Affordable Care Act, i.e. Obama Care. 

Turns out the "affordable care act" wasn't so affordable.

House passes bill.

6 Democrats joined 216 Republicans to send the bill to the president.

In the deal both house and Senate agree to bring a clean bill on whether to extend the affordable care credits.... This compromise keeps workers paid and snap benefits to continue throughout next year.....

Big picture

t this is the pattern, financial and food insecurity is a primary factor for Domestic Violence, violence in home leads to runaway children and broken lives, this then feeds human trafficking and child exploitation. This is dominoes not chess. 1,2,3,4 ..... So by addressing food insecurity and financial concerns we can actually prevent the dominos from falling....

Besides the ACA fight, 2026 midterms will have to deal with the Medicaid budget cut passed earlier this year by the Republicans in the House and Senate and signed by Pres. Trump, "the big beautiful bill". 

Healthcare appears never be a good talking point for the GOP in the ballots, the 2026 midterms are coming up. 

I would like to see universal health insurance.

And the entire universal human rights adopted, 

But with this administration it's not probable.

How ever I believe 

That all humans have rights as a human being.

Right to not have fear of want.

The right to feel secure and express your opinion 

Right to food

Rights to water

Rights to housing 

Rights to medical care

The right to express their religion freely

The right to have human dignity

The right to love who one chooses 

Right to live and raise children in a clean environment 

And the right never to worry that you go without and suffer in want....

Trumped signed bill. Government has reopened, 

Now we see when the Bill for the affordable care act who wants hospital services offered ....

 A clean bill will be brought to the floor for the aca subsides....

They will have to go on record for this one bill of who wants middle class families to have subsidies for purchase of health insurance products in the health insurance industry....

We collect reasons as to why participants are declining coverage and each plan year well more than half of those not participating indicate that the coverage is too expensive. It's close to around 65% indicating the same thing and the good majority of the rest are those that have coverage with the California exchange, which rates are not much better.

Any insurance broker I speak with all blame ACA and the fact that the government pushed participants into their plans when those individuals may not have otherwise enrolled. The fact that health insurance companies were forced to take on added participants due to ACA requirements required the insurance companies to adjust their premiums accordingly due to taking on more and raising their exposure. 

So yes, ACA messed up a lot of things and premiums are through the roof now because of adjustments needing to be made by the insurance companies due to over exposure. This in turn is costing employers and employees more and sure you can get coverage through your State exchange programs if they are still offering, but that doesn't resolve the underlying issues. 

It is not affordable. 

Health care must be paid for. 

Nurses doctors and their staffs need to eat.

Universal one payer system would create this as a payroll tax, but every time this is mentioned the insurance industry launches a campaign against such measures and to fund it raises rates of individuals...

Even if just a cost analyst study, the lobbying campaigns into never addressing this problem exists... Because health insurance is a multi billion dollar product here. 

Now efficiency is that if every emergency room as  primary care . Has impacted the entire systems.

Is health affected yes rural communities run much narrower profit margins and are being squeezed out of the market. It goes down the line clinics urgent care every possible avenue is exhausted by this ability not to pay the fees, . 

We spend a fortune on health care and we are last in the free world in life expectancy, live births , and over all health.....

But taking insurance from the middle class is not a solution....

  When working, we had a company plan that was stellar. When I started retirement in 2017, the medical plan was still pretty good & affordable, only raising premiums about 10% each year. Since 2021, the premiums went up over 400%.....& are going up another 30% for next year. Clearly our provider has been subsidizing the emergency obamacare subsidies.

Fine I guess that their are humans who believe they are better than others, and I clearly see another feeling a group of hair less wingless monkeys shouldn't be given fire.... So where do we balance this ,.... I guess you all just humans and feel your privileged and entitled to health care where others should not ....

Some how a USA citizen isn't worth being labeled as such and those other side of the track animals should just suffer and die... Cause they trash not a human ...

That's kind of where some of the problem lies. Life is about choices and so is healthcare. You can choose to have it or not have it. You can also choose to eat healthy and be healthy or not choose it. I don't think it's fair to pay for those who are choosing to be unhealthy. I'm talking about the smokers and drug users and those who eat fast food everyday. I don't think you would pay for that either, but who knows. This is where the problem is though. Those of us who obtain health insurance understand the importance of it and get it because of the "what if." No different than car insurance prior to it becoming required. You obtained it because you wanted to be covered in case something happened. You could certainly roll the dice, but why would tax payers or the government or the carriers have to be forced into covering those that choose to be unhealthy?

And for the record, I'm not a fan of doctor's who smoke. I think it's an oxymoron to have a health specialist tell others about their health when they themselves are not choosing healthy by choice. 

If you break it down to life having choices, why would healthcare be any different. And if you say that American's shouldn't mind paying for those who make bad choices regarding trying to be healthy then that helps understand where you are coming from. Yes, there are those that do not have a choice and are born with deficiencies, but if we remove them from the equation for a moment and focus on the millions of choosy unhealthy Americans then what say you?

part of the reason the premiums are so high is because of this very issue. Generally, choosy unhealthy people may not care as much about their healthcare as opposed to others. If we are talking about the premiums charged by the health industry, the rates have certainly seen a significant increase over the years at a much higher rate than ever before. I've been issuing healthcare to employees for 35+ years and I haven't seen rates like this expand as they have since ACA kicked in.

Would you rather have a raise or more contributed towards your health insurance by your employer? Tricky question because the younger generation would tell you they wish to have more money in their pocket and the generation might tell you health care. The priorities should be the same if you are getting any type of insurance to better yourself or your life, depending on the type of insurance you are obtaining, but it's not.

We have an aging population requiring more health and wellness services.  We also are not replacing the pool at the same rate requiring the need to increase those that pay into it.

Not a huge fan of the current law of large numbers approach as someone with a smaller footprint should have a smaller buy in.

But similar to all you can eat buffets, I don't get a good return so I don't participate.

Finally remember all humans die, that's our reality and health is a direction not a destination so every choice should move you in the direction of health.

Next year, there could be another government shutdown after January when funding expires because problem has not been resolved.  Without extension of subsidies, over 20 million Americans could be at risk of insurance premiums rising two to three times.  Although healthcare costs always seem to increase, they would be greater without Obamacare.  Other countries pay a smaller percentage of GDP on healthcare because of universal system that enables the rich and young to subsidize the poor and old.  This encourages sick population to seek doctors earlier for primary care which is cheaper than late critical care.

That is a false statement. Speaking on behalf of my company and the brokers I speak with, as well as our Kaiser, Health Net, Blue Shield Anthem, Cal Choice and a number of other Reps, ACA has ruined the model for pricing. We used to receive moderate to virtually no increases prior to ACA. Anywhere from a modest credit to no more than 3-5%. In the beginning of ACA the rate hikes were fine, but as the years went on under ACA the rates are from 8-20% each plan year. And we have both age banded rates and composite rates. At first Kaiser and Anthem had pretty steady and moderate rate increases and Health Net had the highest. 

So, yes, it is standard to see premiums increases from plan year to plan year, but don't be fooled into thinking that ACA has not contributed to the crazy rates we are seeing because that would be completely false. Also, making an employer provide healthcare when it may have normally been doing so is an added cost thrown on to the employer and in order to avoid penalties the employer has to pay or play with enforced penalties if they do not play. This affects how an employer pays its employees because providing monthly healthcare that meets the poverty line threshold, which isn't provided until November mind you, is whether or not your offering is meeting the minimum requirements as affordable. This is how the penalty is determined if one goes to the exchange/marketplace. 

Coming from a business owner in California, the shit is whacked....ACA is 100% responsible for the increased rate hikes we are seeing because the insurance companies are having to project countless enrollees that they never had to project before. It's a game of numbers for the insurance companies and they then pass that on to the businesses and the consumers whether the projected numbers are over or under it cannot generally be revised mid plan year. 

I don't think most that speak about this topic understand the entire dynamic of what has taken place since ACA and why it is such a huge deal anytime it is mentioned. Unless you are in the process and dealing with it yourself and speaking to brokers or healthcare reps then I'm not sure the picture is as clear as it may be to someone who is directly involved. It's a nightmare really.   

Well said. Canada, the UK, Australia, and most European nations like Germany, France, Spain, and the Nordic countries (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland), Japan, South Korea, Taiwan have some form of universal healthcare. United States is the sole country in the Western Countries without a universal healthcare system. Even Russia has it's own universal system.

If Universal Healthcare system doesn't merit the protection for their own citizens, those countries would cut off it long time ago. UK's National Health Service (NHS) was established well back in 1948, some 77 years old already.

It's generally known that universal healthcare carries the risk of potentially a lower quality of care due to overloading the system

Physicians will have less control or no control over decisions being made about ones health...right now it's a little screwy with a member of the healthcare agency reviewing each case and making a determination...often ex physicians or no medical background at all making such decisions, so would this now go to the government for final decisions?

How would this affect the already misaligned budget? Where would the money be taken from to put towards this type of system? If you say all from tax dollars, are you confident the government is handling your tax dollars adequately now? And, how much would need to be taxed to the working people if we were to go universal?

What does universal healthcare do to doctor's rates/fees? Does this encourage or discourage doctor's and nurses and so forth from getting into the field if it is government ran?

What happens to the already established healthcare companies that are currently operating on a stand alone business model? Are they forced out? Do they have to take an enormous cut to make care affordable, whatever that is? Or do these companies fold because they are no longer needed and are pushed out by the government by reduced rate models or something else because government has a hand in it?

There are numerous pros and cons of going to universal coverage, but I'm not confident that our current form of government could pull this off properly. They can't even find the entrance and exit doors properly now. You would have to be really competent to pull off universal healthcare and not disrupt the current system and way it is handled now, which also needs improvement. Universal care puts the government in running a business they know nothing about, in my opinion.

One of the biggest things we hear now about universal healthcare is the wait times to see a doctor. Special care is often limited or too booked in time to see them before major health concerns are exacerbated and what about treatment options for each individual? Does this get shifted and someone slighted?

There is a flaw in this argument which is quality of care.  Using the threads car insurance analogy people are paying (or subsidizing) citizens to have Porches when in reality they're driving Pintos.

Western Medicine in its current for is largely symptom management without substantive efforts to determine root cause.  Often the real root cause doesn't get addressed in the small window of time the patient gets with the doctor, often PA.

So it'd be disingenuous to believe or promote that since they're dealing in health and wellness it's not viewed as a means to get their chunk of the pie.

I will also remind you that it was one side or group indicating that people who refused a covid vaccine shouldn't be entitled to medical care if they got sick.
