Why did the MONEY say otherwise regarding both VP picks?
Biden was a reaction to being attacked, not a complement at all. I dont see the logic regarding Palin though..repubs will vote for a repub almost without question and I dont see enough comparisons between Palin and Hilary to say there is a correlation at all.
Like Lipps said, he shook it up and went with a progressive and interesting VP, it does not matter for much and wont be part of any discussion within 10 days anyway.
He picked a WOMAN, any woman?? You cannot believe that, it degrades women to suggest that a female will vote for a ticket because there is a female VP.

middle aged women who identified with Hillary, not just because she had a vagine, but because they too had many experiences in their lives where they had been leapfrogged for positions by lesser qualified, charismatic men. That's what resonated with Hillary supporters.
You mean just like Obama did to her.
Those women who were gritting thier teeth about voting for Obama may just well vote for Palin now. Yes I said Palin instead of Grandpa.

The name "StraightShooter"...isn't that an oxymoron coming from a republican?
Don't think so. Isn't your comment a typical liberal attack?
Come to think of it, I'm pretty clear on what Republicans stand for on the issues. What exactly is Obama's take on abortion? What is his plan for Iraq? Why can't he answer questions directly in debates rather than throwing together a response with nuance and rhetoric?

Although you would think Palin would be attractive to some of the Hillary backers upset with Obama, they are going to have to get over a huge hurtle.....the fact that they disagree on about 9 out of 10 issues (just re-iterating what ku said).
I asked my sister about this and she said, "great, but I still don't agree with her on two very important issues to me."
We'll see.

I didn't say it will work, but obviously his team thinks that it might and that going after more female votes was necessary. You can't seriously tell me that McCain thought she was the single best mos-qualified person for the job to be a heartbeat away from the presidency. This was calculated to help him pry away a certain segment of votes, not to help him govern or have in place the right successor. I mean, let's get real here.

As far as I can tell, Palin has never taken a single public position on any issue of foreign affairs or national security. And I'm not sure she's hardly had a position on anything else outside of her eskimo state.
She truly is a tabula rasa.

"As for that V.P. talk all the time, I'll tell you, I still can't answer that question until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the V.P. does every day?"
-- VP Candidate Sarah Palin
Guess she was absent the day that was discussed in her High School Civics class.....

Can't wait for the beat-down Obama will give McCain during the debates. There is no way McCain will be able to go toe-to-toe with Obama. No way. McCain has trouble answering simple questions. How in the world will he ever be able to match Obama's wit???

gutcheck - the debate beatdown you speak is laughable. your reasoning is backwards...obama cant answer simple questions ---------
im assuming sarah palin is a great pick
conservatives and independants think its great and liberals are laughing
they mock her inexperience - see obama they mocked her small town background - see obama's PA quotes they mock mccain's house thing - obama got his with help from a slumlord felon
game, set, match...i hope

You're being sarcastic, right? Because the only way the above paragraph works is to switch McCain and Obama's names. In that stupid debate they had last, McCain won and then Dems tried to make the case that Reps cheated or something. The consensus from both sides was that Obama looked horrible. He couldn't answer a single question straight and struggled to put together a concise thought the entire time. Without a teleprompter the guy struggles (kind of like the opposite of Bush who has trouble reading off one). And much like the Bush-Kerry debates, that lil abortion issue will pop up and Obama will have to sidestep left and right, making him look even worse. Now, Biden will likely fair much better against Palin. I have no idea what to expect from her in a one on one.

Yeah, I heard that quote and it was purely in jest. Nice try though.

Obama is very articulating, intelligent and very quick witted.Where as McCain is slow, tends to drift in and out of consciousness and has the same answer for everything (POW).

One again, you show you're lack of knowledge of the facts. McCain has rarely brought up the POW. The only reason you think so is because the media does all the time. It probably won't come up once in the debates unless its asked directly of him. When asked about the economic state of the country, he's not going to begin with "Well when I was a POW". You might wish he did, but it won't happen.

The resume of the presumptive Vice President of the United States:
Head of Fellowship of Christian Athletes at her High School Captain of her high scholl basketball team & leader of team prayer before games.
Won Miss Wailla contest, 1984 (and Miss Congeniality!) Runner-Up, Miss Alaska, 1984 TV Sports Reporter, 1988 Wasilla City Council, 1992-1996 Mayor of Wasilla, 1996-2002 Governor of Alaska, December 2006-present
Wow. That's some serious leadership. She's DEFINITELY qualified. Miss Congeniality? She'll KILL Biden in their debate!

When Obama gave a national speech against the Iraq War she was mayor of an 8,000 person eskimo town, probably judging some dog-sledding race or something.
She has no position on anything.

Or you really bringing up the Obama speech as something of substance? He couldn't even vote on the war.

Depeche...actually I just read that her biggest challenge as Mayor of Wasilla was to make sure there was enough snow on the course for the Iditarod Dog Sled races.
I'll find the link here shortly.

Kind of like Obama. But there will be change......What do you think about.......there will be change........what is your plan for......there will be change.
People are really making a mountian out of a mole hill here. It's a VP for Gods sake, the only people that care are the women that are now taking a 2nd look, message boards and the networks so they have something to fill till the Repubs start thier rain soaked convention.

Yes it was of substance. He didn't hide his opinion. He's been speaking out for years. His positions are known, like them or not.
Palin has never taken a position on any foreign policy or national security issue EVER. Nothing. I guess there's nothing to disagree with then. Now maybe she has. I'm still waiting. But I haven't found anything yet. She went to Iraq last year and when asked for a position on the surge said she wouldn't answer and wasn't there to talk politics. She's dodged ever taking a position on anything. I guess maybe that's why McCain picked her.

A very risky & somewhat arrogant pick IMO that could either end up lookin smart or backfire big-time - prob will be somewhere in-between. They're obviously lookin for 2 upsides - 1) to pick up some women who were strong for Hillary, not sold on Obama & might care more about a woman being on the ticket than alot or most other things & 2) to bring some youthful energy/exuberance to the ticket to possibly offset some of the natural enthusiasm of the Obama/Biden ticket.
The 1st is a calculated & reactionary gamble that they must have felt was neccessary, but I don't see being overly productive. By far most of the big-time Hillary supporters were for HER, not just her being a woman & Palin is nowhere close in the things they liked most about Clinton - in that respect, Hutchinson would have been a far better choice with her experience, recognition & the respect factor.
To me the arrogance comes in when after harping on the experience factor & how important it is to be ready for the job immediately, they bring in someone with little experience & no foreign affairs exp that could become Prez in a heartbeat - or lack of one. Basically undermining all of that by saying either, "well, if anything happens to me, she will be fully capable of handling the toughest job in the world" or a bit arrogantly saying, "even though I'm 72 & not in peak health and will be tackling maybe the most stressful job in the world, nothing is going to happen to me & concerns about her becoming Prez in the most critical of times are irrelevant".
If I was a conservative & McCain supporter, I'd be cringing. Too big a risk for the potential upside IMO when they had other guys with plenty of experience & solid credentials. We'll see -
